Hello,

I am getting started using DIAL for Roku. Based on my experience playing with DIAL protocol for YouTube on my PS3, I noticed that my YouTube app needs to be already running for me to be able to "Discover" it during the "Discover" phase. Is it the same with Roku? Or does roku ALWAYS have a DIAL server running in the background so that I can discover apps on my Roku irrespective of whether the app is currently running or not?

I have not perused DIAL but Roku players are always running SSDP/UPnP server - so my educated guess is you always get the same amount of lather.

@EnTerr Thanks! Minor clarification: when you say "Roku players are always running SSDP/UPnP server" are you suggesting that I should be able to query for an app on Roku irrespective of whether it is currently running or not?

You will be able to use DIAL at any time to launch Roku channels that have declared themselves DIAL-able.

Response time by RokuCo in this forum is highly unpredictable (between hours and never, with a median of a week) - so just try it yourself and maybe let us know here.

Update on this: I have been able to launch an app (YouTube) using DIAL from my PC. Now I am trying to figure out what parameters would I need to pass with the POST request to make Youtube play a particular video. How can I do that? What are the relevant parameters I would need to be able to do that? Thanks.

?v=$video_id

$video_id would be the same as what you'd see in a regular youtube video playback page url (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVBCFGebqTg[/url:ftrxlwwl]) - your app would need to work that out f...
