Why does my Roku remote's Mute button trigger my TV's audio guidance?

Jump to solution

Ok, so I've seen similar topics how to turn off the audio guidance, so I know how to do that, however.  How in the world is it possible when sometimes using my Roku remote's mute button, it triggers on my LG tv's audio guidance?  Which in the tv settings I always have set it to off.  Anyone know?  I didn't know if it's a remote issue or what?  lol, it's bizarre.

Your LG remote will probably do the same thing if you hold down the mute button.  Look for a way to turn it off in the TV's setting.  People have claimed the same problem with Samsung TVs

Sorry, for the delay.  But you are correct.  I did try this and it is also linked to audio.  I'm guessing because our new Roku remote is a voice activated one, which previous one wasn't, this is why it's linked that way.

Solution is, I'm using another remote for mute 🙂

Is there any solution to keep the Roku remote from triggering the LG TV Audio Guidance?  Not wanting to be forced to use two remotes. The Lg TV remote “wheel” is miserable so we don’t want to use that.
This does not happen on our other brand TV’s that use Roku. Only the LG tv. Is this a ROKU issue or an LG Tv issue? Will ROKU work with LG to resolve this?

LG documents how to turn audio guidance on and off using their own remote by pressing and holding the mute button, so I’m not surprised that a remote programmed to mimic an LG also does it.  But perhaps the hold time is different on the two remotes or one mute button is more or less sticky than another.  You can find complaints about this on LG forums as well.  I haven’t seen a method to disable the LG “feature” posted.

Here’s an interesting Reddit thread.  The OP starts by complaining about LG’s remote doing that.  Then he says in a later reply that his Roku remote does it 60% of the time.  He doesn’t say what percentage of the time the LG remote does it, but it implies that the LG is probably less than 60%.  (Though certainly more than 0% since his thread begins by complaining about the LG remote doing it.)

But another guy in the thread said it happened “once” on his Roku.

Weirdly, my parents have neither an LG TV nor a Roku, yet somehow they get audio guidance turned on on their TV too and I get called for emergency TV repair.  I need to google what “handy shortcut accessibility feature” their TV might have…

Banned but back. Because why not?

I’ve turned Audio Guidance off over a thousand times already. It’s making the tv unwatchable. The person who watches it is elderly and can’t control two remotes so I have to constantly get the Lg remote and disable it. Or let it stay on always. The only problem with that is now that I’m simply leaving Audio Guidance on always, when the remote is hit it STILL goes to the Do You Want Audio Guidance on Yes or No button and it takes 2/3 of the screen until it goes away over 3 minutes later. This is making the tv unwatchable multiple times throughout the day.
And a second remote that I have does the same thing. So it’s not a matter of how long I hold the mute button. And sometimes it’s doing it when the remote isn’t even touched now.

Purchased a new remote pro and deleted our most used remote and let the battery zero out. Reset the tv which I’ve done several times already in the past which had not stopped it. Audio guidance is finally staying off! So far.
I had unplugged the roku stick in the past and reset the tv and it was still happening then even using the lg remote. So somehow it seems the roku remote was triggering the lg audio guidance.
if this starts again I will update.
