Weird Issue with Roku Streaming Stick

Jump to solution

I have a weird issue.  The remote connected to my Roku Streaming Stick stops working periodically.  Batteries are still good.  Power button stops working, moving the cursor stops working, etc..  The batteries are new.  As soon as I take out the current batteries and put them right back in, the remote becomes responsive.

I thought it was the remote.  I have multiple Rokus.  Therefore, I changed swapped the remotes.  The issue persisted and was remedied the same way.

I'm wondering if my Roku Streaming Stick is the problem.  I've had it for 6+ years.

Trying to find a solution instead of buying another Roku streaming stick.

Any suggestions?

Welcome, and thank you for posting here in the Roku community, @derickj!

We appreciate you letting us know about this issue on your Roku Stick remote, we're here to help!

To start, we suggest plugging the Roku stick into a different HDMI port to see if it resolves the issue. Additionally, have you considered using an HDMI extender, which may improve the connections between your Roku stick and remote? We highly recommend getting a free HDMI extender if you haven't considered it yet.

In the meantime, please try using our Roku mobile app for temporary and backup remotes. For detailed instructions, refer to our dedicated support article: How to use the Roku mobile app.

Please try doing this and see if it helps with what you're experiencing.

Thanks,
Jharra
