Voice Remote Pro no longer pairs with a TCL TV
I’ve got two Roku Voice Remote Pros and two TCL TVs.
Both remotes still work fine with what I’ll call Mancave TCl TV.
Neither will pair anymore with Living Room TCL TV.
- I have tried factory resetting Living Room TV.
- I have tried resetting the remotes by holding pairing button for 20 seconds.
- Living Room TV works with old school, simple IR, “must point it properly” remote
- Living Room TV also works with Roku app on ipad and also android phone
- if I point the Voice Remote Pro at IR receiver on Living Room TV, power button works consistently, other buttons don’t
any thoughts appreciated!

How are things @crownpointdude
A warm welcome to the Roku Community!
Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the issue with your Roku Voice Remote. We are happy to help.
If you find that the power and volume buttons only work sometimes, it is likely that your remote is using IR to send these commands to your TV. To confirm this is the case, first make sure you can adjust volume when pointing your remote directly at your TV. Next, cup your hand over the front of your remote, then point it away from your TV and try again. If volume cannot be adjusted using this test, your remote is using IR.
You can use the steps below to get your remote to switch to using CEC.
- Check that CEC is enabled on your TV.
- Go to the Settings menu on your Roku player and redo the TV controls setup for your remote.
- Note: Not all TV models support CEC, and some may only support power and not volume. Consult your TV manual for more information.
