Voice Remote Pro control receiver (AVR) volume and mute

Jump to solution

I have my sound going through a receiver/amplifier (an AVR).

The Voice Remote Pro pairs with my TV and powers it on/off. That part works.

The side buttons that conrol audio volume and muting are tied to controlling the TV. That does not work for me. I need it to point to a different device.

It is my understanding that the only way to make this work is to use a secret menu. The password must not be posted openly in the forums.

This is a request for the password in a DM, or correction if I am mistaken.

You can reprogram the Roku remote for your tv, switch from IR to CEC. Then with 4800 Ultra connected directly to AVR it should control the audio receiver's volume. It will be wifi from the Roku remote to Ultra, then it will be CEC signal over the hdmi cable to Audio receiver.

If you have an older AVR that doesn't support CEC (like mine)

home x5, FF, down, REW, down, FF

RF Remote Menu

IR Xmt Menu

Enable Querying AVR's

If you switch codes so volume and mute control the AVR, so will the power button. Can't have it both ways.

Thank you. It appears mine is newer, works with CEC, and will only control devices connected via HDMI. The passcode does not work.

My receiver is very old. I have a simple box that splits my HDMI to RCA, so I guess I will need to use two remotes. My fault for hanging on to old technology.

There's a device called a "Universal Remote Attachment for Roku Streaming Player" on Amazon. It is a small programmable IR remote control that attaches to the left side of your Roku remote. It has a "learn" function where as long as you have the original remote from your audio device, it can learn any IR code for a particular function.

We use it to control the volume functions on a 90's Onkyo (non-HDMI, non-CEC) receiver and we can also use it to change inputs on our LG TV.  Note that any buttons or headphone jacks on the left side of the Roku remote will be covered up by the attachment but it is easily removable if you need to use your headphones and then you can click the attachment back on.

It sure would be nice if the Roku remote could have the power button device separated from the side audio buttons. But IR seems to be old tech and new AV receivers and soundbars now connect by eARC.
