@Juliesc, when you set up the remote for TV control did you choose the IR or CEC option? If one doesn't work, try the other. For the IR option, you can also try lying when it asks you if the music stopped and go on to the next code.
I set up my TV when I purchased it and Never again which was years ago. I did not have to set up my tv to pair the roku device. I've tried lying to the device it does not work. You have to introduce the device to the Samsung TV.
The TV pairs just fine to the Roku Ultra itself. No problems there. It's the NEW remote that doesn't work properly. The old one worked just fine except my husband wore out the buttons playing video games offered by Roku. That said, we have a Samsung Soundbar. When I try to set the replacement remote up, in either IR or SEC (the TV allows me to choose the Roku Ultra for Anynet+ CEC) yet it doesn't work. This new remote looks just like the old one except it has different shortcut buttons on it. Remember, our old remote that came with the Ultra worked fine. This new one does not. I'm putting this all on Roku now. They must have changed something on the remote.
I am so done with this.
Neither work as far as setting up using Roku's setup because I always hear the music. But, we have a separate Samsung Soundbar. I've tried everything to just get the TV sound, turning the soundbar off, muting it, but the actual TV sound does not play. I guess I'd have to totally unplug the soundbar from the TV, which seems like way too much work to just set up a freaking replacement remote when the original worked fine with both the TV and Ultra , without any of these issues, my husband just wore out the buttons playing video games offered by Roku, so they were not as responsive anymore. I'm so done with this. I don't even want to get into the older Roku 2 when we have power outages and it gets stuck on the loading screen, but I've worked that one out, even though it's a pain. Huh. I'm beginning to think Roku=Pain. We've been using Rokus since the first ones were released for streaming.
renojim, nope. I've tried both. The music never stops playing. We have a separate soundbar, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Roku won't let me set it up. I've come to the conclusion that Roku changed something in Remotes, since our original worked fine except for the buttons being worn out from my husband playing video games offered by Roku. The only thing I'd have liked fixed is the power button, which worked on the original remote we got with our Ultra, but will not work on this replacement I just bought. In any case, I'm so tired screwing around with this, I can use the voice to tell it "Off" and it turns everything off. If that quits one day, I found the TV remote.
@Patty1515, the Roku remote won't control the volume on soundbars with some exceptions. If the soundbar responds to the same IR codes as a TV, then the remote isn't really set up to control the soundbar. It's set up to control a TV and it luckily works - this generally occurs when the TV and soundbar are the same brand. The other is if the soundbar is connected via the HDMI ARC/eARC port on the TV and the TV controls it via CEC. The remote sends the signal to the TV which passes it on to the soundbar.
I can't think of a reason why one remote worked while the new one doesn't. You might want to see if the remote can control the TV's volume without the soundbar connected. That may not help in the long run, but it may prove it's not the remote.
@renojim I don't care if it controls the volume on the soundbar. I only want the power button to work and turn the TV and Roku off. The soundbar takes care of itself. The only reason I mention sound is because Roku insists on playing music and asking if you hear it to configure the stupid remote. The power button on the original remote worked, the power button on the replacement does absolutely nothing.
@Patty1515, two thoughts:
I'm guessing if you tell it the music doesn't stop it won't program the remote, so what happens if you set it up for the correct TV brand and just tell it the music did stop? Will the remote turn off the TV?
If you add the "TV Off" shortcut (found under Settings->Home Screen->Shortcuts), does the shortcut turn off the TV?
@renojim , the TV Off shortcut works. Just like all the channel options on the Home Screen. Thanks for that, I didn't realize it was there since it's way down at the bottom of the Home Screen.
As far as just saying the music's off trying to set it up, there's 8 choices if I pick the wrong one will it mess up the remote connection completely? I think I'll just stay with what we have now. I don't need to mess anything up.
I just find it odd that the power button worked on the original remote, but doesn't on this replacement.
@Patty1515, trying the different choices will only affect the TV control buttons (power/volume/mute) and won't affect any of the other Roku controls, so it's ok to experiment. Keep in mind that you can go up to get to the shortcuts. Press Home a couple of times to get back to the top of your Home Screen and then it's easy to get to the "TV Off" shortcut by going up.
