Samsung TV volume/power on remote not working

Fixed it...Samsung TV volume/power button not working. Go to Samsung TV setting using the Samsung remote scroll to device setup. Look for the non cable box setting/ may say game console select it. A separate roku box should pop up and prompt you to use the roku remote- follow the prompts  to complete the setup for the volume and power buttons.

  • Hi, Fixedit welcome to the Roku Community!

We notice that you're having trouble with the power and volume buttons on your Roku remote, and we're here to assist you. To troubleshoot the issue and access the power and volume buttons on your Roku remote, simply follow these steps:

Once your Roku device is activated and set up, you can access the settings menu to configure your voice remote to control your TV. If your Roku device is connected to an AVR or soundbar, we suggest temporarily connecting it directly to your TV during setup to ensure successful detection of your TV's brand.

How to set up your voice remote after initial setup and activation:

    1. Press Home on your Roku voice remote
    2. Scroll and select Settings
    3. Select Remotes & devices
    4. Select Remote
    5. Choose your voice remote from the list and select Set up remote for TV control
    6. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process

    NOTE

    1. When you hear music playing, select Yes to confirm. If you do not hear music playing, try increasing the volume using your TV remote.
    2. Next, your Roku device attempts to mute the volume using remote codes for the detected TV brand. If the music stops, select Yes.
    3. If the music continues to play, select No. Your Roku device was unable to detect the correct information about your TV, however, you can manually enter the brand by selecting Enter TV brand.
    4. As you enter the brand using the on-screen keyboard, a list to the right populates. After you select the brand, the music begins playing again. Select Yes when you hear it. As before, your Roku device again attempts to mute volume, this time using the first of multiple remote codes for the TV brand you entered. After each code is attempted, you are asked if the music stops playing. When it does, select Yes
    5. Your Roku voice remote is now programmed to control both power and volume on your TV. Select OK to continue.

Please let us know if the issue is fixed or reply back to the thread for further assistance, we will be glad to help you.

Must use the Samsung remote and ADD the device to the tv . Once added Samsung will pop up a Roku window to prompt you to walk through the steps of pairing the ROKU remote.

We just got a new Roku Voice Remote to replace our older remote that was having difficulties reacting after many years of use. The new remote will power the TV and Roku Ultra on, but it will not power it off. The TV is a Samsung. I went through the setup using the "Can you hear the music" option and through all the choices, the music never turned off. We do use a Soundbar so not sure if that had anything to do with it. However, I can use the voice option and say, "Turn off system" and it turns the TV and the Roku off. The red "power" button does nothing, however it worked fine with our old remote. Is there something else we can do to get it to work?

      Samsung TV, Roku ultra

We followed set up instructions and it controls the volume and channels, etc., But the power button does not work on the new remote. Roku voice remote for Roku players, Roku audio, and Roku TV (Official)

wondering if we need to return the remote or if there’s something else we could try. (We can ask the voice control button to power off And it works. We can also Hit the OK Button and it turns on the TV and Roku

Juliesc, when you set up the remote for TV control did you choose the IR or CEC option?  If one doesn't work, try the other.  For the IR option, you can also try lying when it asks you if the music stopped and go on to the next code.

  • I have 3 Samsung TVs with 3 Samsung sound bars attached. My Cable TV provider is moving to streaming, so I bought 3 Roku devices. I was finally able to get the remote to work if I unplugged the sound bar and set the TV to use the TV speakers. Then the Roku remote finally was able to work with the power button and audio controls. Then I plugged back in the sound bar, and the audio controls did not work. Very frustrating. I left a poor review of the Roku Ultra on Amazon. I will change my review when and if Roku fixes the sound bar problem.

Dave, I have 2 Samsung TVs. One is practically ancient being more than 15 years old. We recently bought an Ultra for it, just because the Roku 2 we had on it was getting pretty long in the tooth. The new remote works great with it, but it doesn't have a soundbar. The other TV has the soundbar, and of course none of the volumn buttons work with it. That's the nature of the beast, I think. Roku is designed to work with the TV and not extra devices, However, we also can't get the power button to work on it even though our old remote that we had to replace did. But, we use the option to turn it off on the screen so it's not a serious issue. Also not a fan of the newer rechargeable remotes. If the kids forget to plug it in and it dies, no one's happy.
