Roku voice remote acting up, volume

Jump to solution

We purchased a roku device and voice remote in August. Over the last month, something happen and we had to start changing batteries every week. Now, over the last 2 days the volume keeps going up on it's own, the ok  button sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.  The ok button moves the selection one over instead of confirming and playing.  The device is only 4 months old but I can't barely watch TV. We unplugged roku from wall, changed batteries in the voice remote, nothing is helping! @rokusupport

Hi @Lucijas77,

Welcome to the Roku Community!

We noticed in your post that you're having an issue with the volume automatically going up and the OK button of your Roku remote. We appreciate the troubleshooting steps you have tried to fix the issue. No worries, help is here.

Before we proceed, we would like to know if the volume issue happened on a certain channel and content only or if it happened on whatever channel and content you played.

In the meantime, let's see if this will work for you.

Restart your Roku device:

  1. Settings
  2. Select System
  3. Select Power
  4. If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step
  5. Select System restart.

We also recommend you temporarily use the Roku mobile app. For more details, please visit our Roku Support article: How to sign in to the Roku mobile app

If the issue persists, please let us know. We would be more than willing to assist.

Cheers,
Riamie

Thank you for your advice to use the remote on the app! Totally forgot about it.

My husband took the remote apart and found something sticky which was the culprit of why the volume up and down and ok button were not working.  We have no idea what it was and how it got there but it fixed the problem. Thank you

@Lucijas77-

Thank you very much for reporting back.  I wish more people would do this instead of just leaving everybody hanging there.

Had problem with no TV on. Off and no sound control. Solution when pairing remote you pick new remote. Below that it says in small letter "select. Pick it. When you get to page that says "DO YOU HEAR MUSIC" YES OR NO pick yes but here is the trick. You can pick YES and  NO and nothing happens. Pick YES but hold the button down until it goes to the next page. From there it is easy sailing.
