I have a remote that came with a Roku 4 that I hardly ever use. The remote that I use daily with a Roku Ultra on a different TV is losing its 4-way button. Thought I'd save some money and try the Roku 4 remote for use with the Roku Ultra. Can the barely used remote from the older Roku 4 be used with the newer Roku Ultra box?
At present it does not. The pairing light flashes continuously, but the Roku 4 remote will not work with the Roku Ultra box.
Can it be made to work, or is the tech just too different?
Thanks.
In theory it should, but many older remotes just stop pairing, they blink forever until you pull the batteries. I have many Roku 3 remotes like that. If you don't want to pay $20 or $30 for replacement remote get a cheap universal your ultra will accept IR commands too.

Thanks. I had a feeling it was hopeless.
It's not hopeless until you have verified, with FRESH batteries in the remote, that it will not pair to your Ultra.
