Remote not working even with new batteries and repairing

Remote works for a few minutes then stops. I have to take the batteries out then put back in to make it work again. I have replaced the batteries and repaired my remote, and the problem persists. I’ve tried several pairs of brand new batteries as well as unplugging the Roku and repairing multiple times.

Re: Remote not working even with new batteries and repairing

Greetings from the Roku Community, @Jam6!

We appreciate you reaching out for support and we'd be happy to help you find the best resolution for your physical Roku remote issues.

Firstly, could you please confirm if this is the remote that came with your Roku Express? If not, what specific remote model is this? Here's where you can identify your Roku remote

In the meantime, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try as well as the support articles for reference:

  1. Remove the battery cover on the back of your remote
  2. Remove both batteries from the battery compartment
  3. Re-insert the negative (-) end of a battery first and then gently push the positive (+) end until the battery clicks into place
  4. Repeat the previous step to install the second battery
  5. Put the battery cover back on your remote

Keep us posted on how it goes!

Best regards,
Carly

Re: Remote not working even with new batteries and repairing

It is a voice remote. It did not come with the Roku but it has been working fine since I got it in December. I already tried the battery removal. When remove the batteries and put them back, it will work for a little while then it stops working again within minutes. Even if the batteries are brand new.

I tried every troubleshooting option. on your website before asking.

Re: Remote not working even with new batteries and repairing

Thanks for keeping us posted, @Jam6.

We highly appreciate the efforts you've made in trying to troubleshoot your Roku Voice Remote. Rest assured that I will coordinate this with our Support team for additional reinforcement.

Kindly check your inbox her in the Community, as I will contact you via Private Message to gather further personal information regarding this matter.

In the meantime, you may use the Roku mobile app as an alternative to your physical remote. This app is a free application for iOS® and Android™ devices that turns your mobile device into a control center for your Roku streaming player or Roku TV™ system. The Remote feature of the mobile app allows you to use your phone or tablet as a Roku remote.

For reference, here's the support article dedicated to this: How to use the Roku mobile app to control your Roku streaming device without a remote

Your continuous patience and cooperation as we work on this are highly appreciated.

Best regards,
Carly

Re: Remote not working even with new batteries and repairing

I've been doing this trick for years. On all of my Roku Ultra remotes if you just take the back battery cover off the remote will work again and then after it's working just put the cover back on. The problem when you remove the batteries is sometimes you'll have to pair the remote again. It's a design error in the remote itself. I don't know if it's the battery cover or the remote itself, but again just by simply removing the battery cover it will work again.
