My remote setting is listing “Gaming Remote and no other remote is listed. My Roku remote works with my tv. I’m confused why it’s listing gaming remote with a battery level of 28%? Is this for gamers? Because I’m not a gamer and this shouldn’t show on my settings. Is this what my remote is listed as? Or, has my remote or Roku been hacked!
Does your remote have A & B keys on it? That's a Gaming remote, if turned to it's side it forms a gaming controller via A & B keys along with cursor pad.
What model Roku did this remote come with? I had a Roku 3 that came with a Gaming Remote. I don't know what other models might have had one as well.
My Ultra 4660 came with one as well. Still working.
I have two Gaming remotes that have the A and B buttons on them, they came with Roku Ultras 4660 models I purchased in 2017. They both still work great and they take two double A batteries.
The new voice remotes are terrible! They take two triple A batteries and they are constantly losing connection, when they reestablish Wi-Fi connection they pop up an annoying battery level notification on the screen. The rechargeable Voice Remote Pro remotes do this also.
Whoever designed the newer model remotes did a horrible job because the malfunctioning battery level pop ups are still occurring after years of complaints. The older Gaming Remotes and Enhanced Voice Remotes (which all take double A batteries and are discontinued) don't seem to have this problem. They either don't lose connection, or if they do they don't spam your screen with a battery pop up when the connection is reestablished.
I know this because if I take out my triple A batteries and put them back in while on the home screen or playing a video I get the battery level pop up. But if I do the same thing with my double A batteries in my older remotes this does not happen.
Roku could fix this if they made an update to the remote software but seemingly they don't care. All they have to do is update the remote software so that when Wi-Fi is connected nothing from the remote software pops up on the screen. That's the solution! That or also giving us the ability to disable all remote pop ups in the remote settings, which I've been suggesting for years.
