Re: My Roku TV remote drains battery fast

Jump to solution

I have this problem as well. However,  I only have it on one TV, and it isn't the one I watch most frequently. Therefore I don't believe these solutions would apply in my case.

Why is my Roku voice remote draining batteries so quickly?

Jump to solution

I have a Roku 4K device and the voice remote that came with it is draining NEW AA batteries COMPLETELY about every 30 days.  When using it it sometimes continues to perform the last function you pushed the button for even though the button has been released.

I believe there is some sort of a short in it and that it is constantly “on”/transmitting even though the Roku device itself is off.
Is there any route that I can go with Roku for a replacement or am I just stuck with buying another remote?

Hi Community Users,

Thank you for posting here in the Roku Community!

We understand your concern. Roku remotes are built to last, but a few factors can drain the remote's battery more quickly. One factor is a congested Wi-Fi network around the device, which can cause the remote to constantly reconnect and use more battery. Another factor is the frequent use of short-form content, where a lot of button presses are made in a short period of time.

In the meantime, you may want to consider trying a different brand of battery. We also highly suggest installing the Roku mobile app, a free application for iOS and Android devices that turns your mobile device into the ultimate streaming companion. Not only can you launch channels, navigate the Roku interface, and search and issue commands with your voice, but you can also share personal photos and videos on your TV, listen privately with your headphones, and more.

Thanks,
Jharra

I've got two Roku sticks and two remotes.

But only one courses issues, I'm sure its a hardware fault on the remote and nothing to do with what Roku state.

As I've got other remotes for other devices in the same room which don't drain batteries too.

Hi, @JBG99 Greetings here in the Roku Community!

Thanks for letting us know about the issues you've encountered with your physical Roku remote. No worries! We're here to help you find the best resolution possible.

There are a few reasons why Roku remote batteries may drain quickly:

1. Improper Pairing: If the remote is not correctly paired with your TV, it could lead to faster battery depletion. We recommend the following steps to help:

  • Repair the remote with your TV.

2. Heavy Usage: Features such as private listening, available on select Roku remotes, can also drain the battery.

3. Factory Reset: In some cases, a factory reset may resolve the issue. To reboot your remote, please follow these steps:

  • Verify the batteries and replace them if necessary.
  • Unplug the Roku device from the power source for approximately 5 seconds.
  • If your rechargeable voice remote has a pairing button, kindly press and hold the pairing button on the back of the remote for 20 seconds.
  • If your remote does not have a pairing button, please press and hold the Back and Home buttons for 20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the Roku device to the power source. Attempt to use the remote again.
If the issue persists after trying the troubleshooting steps provided, kindly send me a Private Message with the following details:
  1. Serial number of the Roku player this remote is paired to.
  2. Is this the remote that came with that device? If not, kindly specify if this is a Voice Remote Pro or Voice Remote Pro (2nd edition).
  3. When and where did you purchase this?
To send a PM, kindly select my username, View Profile, and on the right side of the page, select Send this user a private message.

Thanks,
Jharra

This seems pretty unacceptable to sidestep the issue of defective remotes. I've had numerous Roku devices, and this is not the first defective remote. You all need to start offering replacements instead of making up fake reasons for battery drain and suggesting we use our phones. We paid for remotes!

They aren't even showing message replies here. Roku has turned into a 'bad actor' company, with their scam to get people to agree to terms to give up our rights when we have claims against them.

In any case, defective remotes are common, and they prefer to divert the issue with made up reasons that are on the user, and then suggest using our phones rather than the remote we paid for.
