I recently was forced to move and lost my roku remote, so I cannot connect it to my wifi. I downloaded the roku remote from Google play store but it wants the ip address to "locate" my device, but i cant get that because i cant get to the settings on my screen without a remote... any suggestions??? TIA!!!

Same here. I too lost the remote. Downloaded RoByte remote. It was working. But when I had to factory reset the Roku TV, it is asking the password. The internet says there is no password after reset. So the downloaded remote cannot connect to Roku.

Can someone tell me what is password, after factory reset?

You can NOT use the cell phone app until your roku and cellphone are on the same internet network and password. So initially you HAVE to have a real roku remote no getting around that, sorry.

I found a new way around this... If you have an new or old cell phone or tablet with ir blaster built in just download a philips tv remote app with ir functionality and boom, you're good to go.

If you can't connect and have no remote then its easier to connect the roku through ethernet cable and download the roku app on your phone and connect to your roku that way.  Then go to setting and make it connect wirelessly to your network and disconnect your ethernet cable after that.

@Dds71, good advice, but the vast majority of Roku devices are Wi-Fi only.

Stayed in a hotel for a few weeks. Synced remote to a new roku before reconnecting the old roku back to my home wifi. Nothing would connect to the old roku- no wifi, no previous remotes, no downloaded app remotes. The reset definitely worked for me and everything is working fine! Thank you boogernose. Roku specialist didn’t even help.

I I just bought a used Roku, they didn't factory reset it and I don't have the remote. How can I set it up?

You're going to have to get a remote, no other way. Depends on the roku model, what is the model number? You could get a cheap universal remote from target, walmart, or the dollar store. If your roku accepts IR remotes. If its a stick, you will need a roku wifi voice remote, unless its a purple roku stick then sorry you're out of luck they don't make remote for those anymore.

Hello!
I moved to a new house and lost my roku remote. I have a different wifi here than my last apartment so my roku TV isn't hooked up the internet. The TV doesn't have buttons on the side to do anything (specifically adjust volume!!!). I can't connect to the wifi on the TV in order for my phone to work as a remote. Additionally even if I could do that there is still no volume adjustment on the phone app. If I buy a new remote how can I even connect them without the internet? 

Help! It's to dang loud in here.
