You are INCORRECT. With a Roku HD I can plug a USB drive into the USB port on the Roku, and using the Spectrum app on the Roku I can in fact record shows JUST LIKE A DVR.
The Spectrum app on the Roku supports recording including scheduling and all other DVR functions.
There's no such player as a Roku HD. In the past there were two different models that used that name, but they are both well over ten years old and no longer work with the current version of Roku OS or most apps.
If you can DVR with the Spectrum app/channel on a Roku device, odds are good you are saving the program in cloud storage, not an attached USB storage device. The same thing can be done with numerous other channels, but none are using a USB device connected to the Roku for storage.
I just looked up the instructions for recording with the Spectrum app on a Roku device. Nowhere does it say you must connect a USB storage device for it to work. That means you are using the Spectrum cloud storage for DVR use, not a local drive.
In addition to what @atc98092 said, USB drives are always mounted read-only. No app can write to any kind of attached storage.
