Roku Express and user are physically located in the Los Angeles California area. When configuring Roku, I performed several software updates, and input email address to activate the Express. From this it is clear that Roku knows USA physical location and USA IP address of the Express. But, and here is the software defect, for nowadays routine privacy reasons, I use a VPN on my laptop, and was connected to a VPN in Europe. So I activated the Express from my VPN-connected laptop. Consequently it seems that despite Roku's knowing that the Express is in the USA, my device is treated as if it is located in Europe, and the SEARCH function is not available. A search of the FAQs says just delete the ID, factory reset the Express, and activate the Express from a USA IP address. This is definitely a software defect as Roku knows, or should know, that the Express is not in Europe, but in the USA.
