Is the TV a brick or does it have built in tuner for antenna? I've seen a couple TV's on here and imagine the support is just as "stellar" for the soundbars in that restoration takes weeks 1 device at a time. As consumers we are subject to lifecycle support failure for dummies. No beta testing before they roll out "new features".
I should note that, a few days after I posted above, and without anyone from Roku contacting me as some have described, I tried the reset process again and it all worked. A bit mysterious, really.
This afternoon I ran the Update option again in Recovery Mode and my Soundbar is finally working again. But it looks like this might be a case by case situation so this may not be helpful to others.

Email your device info to their support people. It will be weeks before they reach out to undo what their poor ongoing roll out has delivered to their consumers. Their fix is apparently 1 device at a time. Lifecycle support for dummies by Roku!
Mine is doing the same thing.
It's in Recovery Mode and I can't get out of it. When I do update it says software update failed when I go to restart it goes to the gray screen with onn.Roku TV and then after a little bit back to Recovery Mode again. Same with recovery. I've had my TV for 2 years
