Moved stick to another TV and it's not working

I bought  a Roku 4K and installed it initially on my smart TV.  I went to move it up to another room, plugged it into to back of TV then used the cable to plug into outlet and nothing happens.  I tried the 2nd HMDI outlet on the TV and same thing happens...nothing at all.  When I plugged it in initially it started up right away.  I am unsure what I am doing wrong?

Re: Moved stick to another TV and it's not working

Are you using the TV's remote to select the proper HDMI input?

Re: Moved stick to another TV and it's not working

When

i use the TV remote I went to settings, general and HDMi settings.  I get an error command saying "Sorry, the application you have tried to access to  temporarily unavailable. Please try again.  I am at a loss now as to what to do.

Re: Moved stick to another TV and it's not working

Does the TV remote have a button labeled "Source" or "Input" or "A/V"?  If so, try that button.  What's the brand and model number of the TV?

Re: Moved stick to another TV and it's not working

It is an LG TV and the input button is on the side.  When I press it Roku starts to load now, but I have ROKU stick into the back of the TV and it seems the remote will not work when it's plugged in the back.  So now I need to buy another cord of some sort, just not sure now what the cord is called.  Any idea?

Thanks in advance 😀

Hi @kelseewhite,

Thanks for posting here in the Roku Community!

We understand you're having trouble connecting your Roku streaming device to your TV. We would be more than glad to assist you and set you up for streaming.

For us to have clarification of the issue, are you trying to connect your Roku streaming device to a different TV? In addition, are you seeing any error codes?

All the best,
Kash

Re: Moved stick to another TV and it's not working

@kelseewhite-

If this second TV is a lower resolution than the one you moved the TV from, the Roku may be set to only send that higher resolution signal, that would not be supported by the new set.

I'd suggest reconnecting the Roku to its original set and set the Display type to the actual resolution of the other set, not the Auto detect setting.

Settings > Display type

When you change the Display type to a new setting it runs you through several screens:

  • A screen that lists the display options supported by that Roku device and allows you to choose one. It will warn you if your TV has not indicated it supports your choice but will still allow you to try it.
  • A screen with a picture, below which it asks if you can see it. You have two choices:
        No, there's a problem
        Yes I see it
The "No" option is highlighted by default. To keep the screen setting you're currently trying, you have about 15 seconds before the page times out to arrow over to the "Yes" option and click on it.

If your screen just goes black and stays that way, or if your TV displays a "No Signal" or similar warning, just press the Back Arrow button on your remote to return to the menu you could see.

Re: Moved stick to another TV and it's not working

I bought an extender and it's sill not working I am sure the TV is too old.  I will try reconnecting the Roku to its original set and set the Display type to the actual resolution of the TV I want to use it on or leave the original one back where first put it and buy another one for the TV upstairs as we likely will need one for each TV anyway.
