I went away for a week. I tried to power off my tv but it went to a backdrop photo display. I had the Backdrop app installed but NOT turned on (I prefer my own Photo Stream as the screensaver). I could not turn off my tv (TCL RokuTV). I made sure my power setting was to turn off after 4 hours of disuse. Had to leave, came back tonight to find my television STILL ON and still on the same stupid photo. I deleted the Backdrop app, but this seems like a really significant bug. I am very thankful my tv was not damaged by displaying the same image for a week.
Hi @shelwood46,
Thank you for posting here in the Roku Community!
We'd love to investigate more thoroughly this problem you had with the Backdrops feature, as it could not shut off your Roku TV.
Can you please provide the following information below?
Note: After Backdrops is enabled, press your remote's power button to start Backdrops. Suppose you want to turn off your TV, long press and hold down on your power button.
For more information, see this support article on using backdrops on Roku streaming devices.
I want the TV to automatically turn off after a certain period running backdrops.
Using the "Daily Stop Timer" feature/setting from within Backdrops will now turn the display off.
Unfortunately, not yet implemented but will be in the coming months.

Until then, maybe try using the "Sleep Timer" built-in to most RokuTVs.
