I have a tcl roku tg (roku tv 8116X, tcl model 32S327) and i am trying to connect to wired wi-fi. I connected the ethernet cord to the tv through an ethernet adapter and the usb insert on the tv, however i cannot connect it to my tv because when connecting to a network it will only let me do a wireless connection, it won’t let me chose an ethernet connection. help !!!

Re: ethernet connection not working
@ksklo, what USB Ethernet adapter are you using? I don't think just any one will work. In fact, I don't see Roku TVs mentioned anywhere here:

when i go to connect a network it doesn’t give me a wired network option, only wireless. It has not been previously connected to a network

Re: ethernet connection not working
Hate to say it, but I'd surmise TCL went cheap on the build and didn't provision an Ethernet circuit inside their box, neither a direct RJ-45 port nor a USB profile for Ethernet. I did look up the model number and read what I could about the specs, it seems to imply TCL supports only wireless 802.11. Be aware the USB standard specifies many different functions but manufacturers choose which functions to provision/install, thus the Roku chart showing which of their plugin boxes support Ethernet USB adapters.
I own an older Sharp brand Roku TV which includes an RJ-45 port for Ethernet connection, and many of the early generation Roku TVs did as well; 6 years along and it seems the trend is eliminating less used features to scrimp on cost.

Re: ethernet connection not working
Greetings. When I was unplugging my ethernet cable from the tv, I think I squeeze-pulled wrong and now it wont snap into place and stay there- I had to tape it to the tv so it wont come out- and I can use my computer internet this way, but I cant use the apps inside the tv, like Netflix or Amazon, etc- and when I try to do the set up as a wired connection, it says it does not sense an ethernet connection/isnt connected.
I am guessing that I have to replace that ethernet female on the tv- maybe that little part is still stuck in there??
Any thoughts?

Re: ethernet connection not working
the plug on a CAT5/CAT6 wire is an RJ-45 and is made of nylon, it is fairly common to break the little press tab that seats the plug into the RJ-45 jack (female), so that the plug won't push all the way in and make solid contact. It's unlikely anything is stuck inside the jack, though you might use canned air to blow it out.
If you're an old time computer nerd like me, you'd have the equipment to cut off the plug and rewire a new one onto it, but I'm guessing you're not equipped to do that. I've broken many a RJ-45 plug in just that way.
Thus, for the most part, you need a new CAT5/CAT6 cable, with good connectors.
