Why do I have to restart my TV every time I use it for it to connect to my wifi?

Jump to solution

Mine started doing the same thing. It is only the Onn Roku TVs. The others stay connected with no issues.

Hi @Carolyn4647,

Thanks for the first post to the Roku Community!

We understand you're having connectivity issues with your Roku TV, and we appreciate the steps you took to resolve the issue.

For this matter, we're glad to let you know that performing a Factory Reset on your Roku TV may resolve the issue you are experiencing.

You can follow the steps below to perform a factory reset from the Roku device settings:

  1. Press the Home button on your Roku remote.
  2. Scroll up or down and select Settings.
  3. Select System
  4. Select Advanced system settings.
  5. Select Factory reset
  6. Select Factory reset everything and follow the on-screen instructions.

You may also use the physical button on your Roku TV. It is located on the back or bottom of your device, and the physical Reset button is either tactile or has a pinhole design that requires a straightened paperclip. It will appear similar to one of the following:

image.png

Once you locate the Reset button and your Roku device is powered on, press and hold the button firmly for about 10 seconds. When the factory reset is complete, an indicator light or status LED will blink rapidly on most Roku devices.

After a successful factory reset, your Roku device will restart in the same state as a factory-new device.

For more detailed information, visit our Support article on factory resetting a Roku streaming device.

We hope this helps! Let us know if you still have any questions.

All the best,
Chel

Hi @Lisagf,

Welcome, and thank you for posting!

We understand that you're having network issues with your Roku ONN TV. We'd be glad to assist.

  1. Could you tell us if you're seeing any error messages?
  2. Did the issue happen after an update on your Roku TV?
  3. What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

To check for improvements, we recommend connecting your TV to an alternative network, such as a mobile hotspot.

Kindly keep us posted with your findings.

Regards,
Janadee

I have this same issue with my Phillips Roku TV. I've had my TV for 3 years and the same internet connection for 2 years. It's annoying. I've noticed it happens when the TV has been off for a bit. Sometimes I have to restart my system a second time for it to connect.

Yes. I just restart the system once or twice for it to connect. I have a roku in my bedroom as well (not roku tv) that is older than my tv. No issues with connectivity.

Thanks for the response, @Mucho_amor5566.

To resolve the issue, please perform a Factory reset on your Roku TV, not just a system restart.

Note: Once you perform a factory reset, it will:

  • Erase your personal preferences.
  • Unlink your Roku device from your Roku account.
  • Reset all settings and return your Roku device to a state ready for initial setup.

You can follow the steps above to reset your Roku TV fully, or you can visit our Support article for more detailed information on factory resetting your Roku device or TV.

Please keep us posted on how it works for you.

All the best,
Chel

Hi @Damstr8,

Thanks for the first post to the Roku Community!

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and informing us that the issue persists even after a factory reset.

We'd be more than happy to look into this further. For us to help you better, we will ask a set of questions to isolate the issue:

  • What Roku device are you using right now? (e.g., Roku Express, Roku Streambar, Roku TV—specify TV)
  • Are you receiving error messages or codes?
  • Are there any changes in the setup or settings of your Roku device or your network provider that might cause the problem?
  • Who is your ISP? (Internet service provider)

We'll be eager to wait for your update.

All the best,
Chel
