TV volume going to zero on its own when trying to use Roku remote to adjust volume up.

Jump to solution

This just started recently with my TCL Roku TV and the Roku remote.  The TV volume will go to zero and the remote will stop functioning entirely.  Tried a hard reset with the TV by holding the power button for 30 seconds and it worked temporarily, but then the volume went to zero again when I tried to change channels.  Tried another hard reset, this time for 60 seconds, with the same result.  No volume, and no response on the TV from the remote.  Any ideas on what might be happening?

I got a great idea, why don't you fix your **bleep** software that is doing this obviously some remotes are sending the signal to the TV for volume down because if you block the remote then it doesn't send the signal so the problem if you really want to know since I've debugged it for you is in certain remotes. Probably going to have to send out a bunch of new remotes or firmware updates or this will turn into a legal issue, so fix your problem. And have a merry Christmas and happy holiday.

This was happening to me as well. After trying everything humanly possible and multiple forums for advice nothing worked.  But then I noticed something, I had a set of LED flowers on the table behind me that were flickering subtly like the IR sensor on the TV.  I thought this couldn't be a coincidence, so I removed the batteries from all the remotes with my eyes on the flashing flowers but nothing happened. Then realized the only remote I had left was the Apple TV remote that you can't remove the battery for, so I unplugged the power cable from the Apple TV box and presto the flowers stopped flashing and the Tv IR sensor stop too and works fine now.  Through all the frustration I wanted the throw that Apple TV out the window lol
