Roku tv has trouble connecting to app

Jump to solution

We have multiple Roku devices, they are all connected on same network and every thing. When I want to use the Roku remote app on my Roku tv, sometimes it connects instantly, other times it take 10 minutes of constant restarting in an attempt to connect the app to the Roku tv, but when I use the Roku ultra which is not a Roku tv, it connects instantly every time. It’s always just the Roku tv that can never connect to the app. I’m right next to the tv and always clicking connect to it but just takes so long. Why can the Roku app connect the the Roku ultra so easily but not the Roku tv?

Hi @voletco1,

Welcome to the Roku Community!

We are pleased to have you here sharing your concern about the Roku mobile app that is not connecting to your Roku TV. We're here to assist you with this concern.

Before we continue, we would like to know how far is your modem from your Roku TV. In the meantime, we highly suggest you try the following.

Reset the network connection.

  1. Press Home on your Roku remote
  2. Scroll and select Settings
  3. Select Advanced System settings
  4. Select Network connection reset
  5. Select Reset connection

After the network reset is done, your Roku device will restart and you will need to return to the Settings menu and set up your wireless network again.

Restart your Roku device.
To restart your Roku device, you can either unplug the power cable, wait a moment, and then reconnect it. Or you can use the following steps to restart it from the Settings menu.

  1. Press Home on your Roku remote
  2. Scroll and select Settings
  3. Select System
  4. Select Power. If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step.
  5. Select System restart

After your Roku device powers back on, make sure it is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

If the issue persists, you can try to connect it manually using the physical Roku remote of your Roku TV.
Locate the IP address of your Roku device by going to Settings > Network > About, and then use the steps below to connect manually.

  1. Launch the Roku mobile app
  2. Tap Devices

Already tried this twice.  Still doesn’t work.  I have tried everything but a antenna.
