I have the Roku Photos app set as the screensaver, but whenever I’m paused for 5 minutes in Paramount the screensaver “Roku Rain” comes up instead.
Hi @jp144,
Welcome to the Roku Community!
Thanks for bringing to our attention that your Roku TV will disable the screen and set the screensaver when you pause Paramount Plus for 5 minutes. No worries, we are more than happy to help.
In addition to the information provided by our Community Expert @renojim, I highly suggest you follow the step-by-step process below.
The screensaver start time specifies how long your device must be idle before the screensaver is displayed.
For reference, you can visit our Roku Support article on how to change the screensaver on your Roku streaming device.
We hope you find this information helpful.
Regards,
Riamie
That's the normal behavior when you pause a video in any app. There's not enough resources to run you selected screensaver, so you get "Logo rain" by default.

Thanks for the reply. After posting this I’ve read other posts on Reddit saying that it is by design as well.
That said, it seems kind of silly to me to even have a screen saver option on Roku if the only time it will honor it is when we’re on the Home Screen, at least given the specs on most modern Roku devices and TVs, where, sans the Roku Express, there is 1GB or more. https://developer.roku.com/en-gb/docs/specs/hardware.md
That seems like enough RAM to run a screensaver over the top of a paused stream.
I guess I’ll try to find a link to suggestions somewhere and see if they can modernize the screensaver options to match the latest device specs.
