This issue seems relatively new. I've been experiencing it for a few months now. It only seems to occur when using the Prime or Netflix apps.
Clearing the Roku cache doesn't work for me.
I've removed, restarted and reinstalled Prime and Netflix over and over again.
There has to be some kind coding issue with the apps or not enough memory.

I received an email today from someone at Roku pointing me right back to the solutions posted on this thread,
These "solutions" do not work for me, as I stated yesterday. That's the point!
Reinstalling Netflix and Prime does nothing to correct these apps from crashing back to the Home screen.
This is a firmware issue.
Fix your firmware!
reloading Netflix and prime apps did nothing for my Roku TV but rebooting my Roku tv worked so far a few days without it stopping.... it was such a pain..... I always thought it was a app size issue, just at the max size Roku can load.
I do not have APP under my System>Settings> Advanced
I can press HOME 5 times but if I press up it moves to settings
Netflix app only. Have tried clearing caches, restarts, modem and Roku, uninstalled app and reinstalled. I'm frustrated. Netflix is fixing to lose my subscription as us any royalties Roku receives.
I did the same thing too, and it worked for a few days. Now it's doing it again. Amazon prime works just fine and I actually watch it more now because of the Netflix app issue. I'm fixing to stop my subscription. Maybe by everyone doing so too, Roku will seriously look into this issue. If they lose our Roku Netflix subscription, they lose royalties too! Maybe then they'll do something for us .
yes it will move to settings but do the rest of the sequence and it will reset
This worked for me. Prior to this the Netflix app crashed every approx 5 mins -back to the Roku Home screen - it now plays through the entire program without crashing. Note that you should perform this reasonably rapidly - and don't worry that screen jumps about showing different stuff during this process.
Go to the Roku Home screen
Ensure that the Home menu item on the left is currently selected then:
Press the Home button 5 times
Press up once [^ button]
Press rewind twice [the << button]
Press fast forward twice [the >> button]
The screen will freeze for up to 30 seconds, then the device will reboot.
Thanks to the above contributors for this.
