Possible bug that causes the TV to freeze

Onn 43" 4K Smart TV.

Model: 100012584

HW ID: G875X

SW Version: 12.5.0, built 4176-CT (The latest as of today 12/13/2023).

To reproduce the bug:

1) run the Live TV (the small gray icon with 3 dots on the left) which includes all channels (OTA and Internet), not the purple color Live TV Channel Guide,

2) push the OK button on the remote to pull up the Status/Info panel,

3) push the Left button to pull up the full channel list with timelines.

4) On this timeline panel, use the fast-forward or backward to quickly jump through channels.

After a button-push, a few jumps the TV will freeze up, and auto-reboot after about 30 seconds (like a watchdog thing).

Otherwise the TV can run stably for hours.

Can anyone please try and confirm if this is a ubiquitous software but, or perhaps other factors involved?

Thanks.

Re: Possible bug that causes the TV to freeze

Hi @Jay629,

Thanks for making your first post here in the Roku Community!

We appreciate you sharing your report about this behavior you're seeing on your Roku device. We're here to help.

Could you tell us more about this? How long and when did you start seeing this? Does a simple restart help fix it, or does it come back even after the restart?

Let us know more about this so that we can further zoom in on it.

Thanks,
Rey

Re: Possible bug that causes the TV to freeze

Just found this out recently.

Already tried software reset, hardware reset/power-drain by holding power button for 10s,

the only thing hasn't been done is the hardware reset button on the back, guessing will be the same result too.

Also tried power on-off,

and power off overnight, then power-on the device and reproduce the bug right away (which kind of eliminates the possibility of overheat).

If I let the TV stay on a channel, it plays fine for hours without any issue.

If I go to a channel, then exit the app and to another channel, all fine,

it only freeze on the specific screen with channel switching (TV playing on the background, Timeline and channel info showing in front)

The full channel info + timeline panel shows up when entering the Live TV app,

or OK -> Left button while playing any channel.

Not sure if it happens on the purple Live TV Guide app too, I rarely use it since it excludes many channels including the local OTA. (side note, very confusing as there are about 3~4 live tv apps 🤣)

Would be nice if someone with this specific model, or perhaps a similar model with the same firmware version just give it a try and see if the TV gets stuck and reboots too.
