This sound bar does only announce the sound bar status. The voice is connected to the sound bar and would say the same thing regardless of that the sound bar was connected to.
You’re not wrong. The sound bar is stand alone. You can have it connected to an older, non-smart tv (like mine) and nothing else. The sound bar AND THE SOUND BAR ALONE announces that it is on, what it is connected to (HDMI), as well as the mode it is in, and tells you when you power it off.
does anyone know how to make it NOT do that?! It’s driving me nuts!
The issue is, when googling it, it brings up the link to this insane thread!
Are you talking about settings on the soundbar ?
Yes, use the Soundbar remote, have the tv set to hdmi input the Soundbar is connected to, and use their directions to go into the soundbar settings.
I’m not finding anything in the instructions (product guide) that was provided.
With a non-roku tv - how does this work

It’s not a screen reader issue, if you’re going to be useless then log off.
There are no soundbar settings you waste.
