What were the steps you used?  I am getting the same error message.  I bought a new tv a week ago and cannot hook up my older dvd player. The tv doesn't have the 3 way adapter only a yellow, so I purchased a HDMI with 3 way adapter on one end to the dvd player and it still has the same error.  And I have tried it in every HDMI port.  Very frustrating.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

You mentioned your new TV has a single yellow hookup therefore I think one of these is all you need to fix your problem. They can also be found at most electronics stores as well.
