Re: iPlayer not available on Roku 1 any longer

Thanks for the advice, but looks like I am only connecting via 2.4 GHz WiFi. Seems good enough for what I am using it for, which does not include gaming or that much streaming.

@harryarcos1  Many people have issues with their ISPs and connecting to the 2.4 network. It’s filled in this community. Many people with the base model Roku Express are finding themselves not connecting to their WiFi. So they need to reconfigure their modems. So it’s best to get a Roku that’s dual band to avoid these issues

Having trouble with receiving ONLY BBC iPlayer on my ROKU Streaming Stick+,  Model 3810EU.

Looking at latest BBC info they publish and list only those Certified NOW and ROKU models that CAN receive iPlayer.

My model is very obviously a "Streamer" but 3810EU is listed as a Set Top Box! Hope this is a typo and doesn't mean I'm now on the exclusion list???

@Talltone  your Roku model is a Stick model.  It is completely different from a compact Roku set-top box model.  Set-top box models technically perform the same firmware as Stick models.  I have no idea why you’re one of those users who only refers to a set-top box as a cable box, other than you’re probably new to streaming.  My parents ditched Comcast cable back in February 2020 in favor of their Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K and that was when I bought the Roku Express+ 3910.

All Roku models released before 2014 will no longer receive software updates. Beginning in October 2022, they will be officially ported over to the Legacy Products column.  This particular port-over will include Stick models 3400, 3420 and 3500.

Keep in mind that the Express+ 3910 was the last model to support analog A/V outputs to older TV sets.  It was released back in October 2017 and discontinued in the summer / fall of 2018 in favor of the Premiere+ 3921.  Due to analog TV sets having became obsolete and gone bye-bye in the late 2000s/early 2010s, the 3931, from 2019, was the first Express+ model by Roku with only an HDMI output.  Therefore, it no longer makes financial sense for a streaming platform company to officially support 20th century-era technology.  Most devices manufactured today that still have the analog A/V outputs are manufactured by minor Chinese facilities and sold under generic and no-name brands.

I’m into videotapes and old electronics stuff, including extenders, converters and analog 4:3 TV sets (which are obsolete these days), and Miss Bianca is my favorite character in Disney’s The Rescuers (1977) and its sequel, The Rescuers Down Under (1990). I am not a Roku employee, only a user like you. ~ Jordan

Hi @Talltone

Thanks for the post.

Based on BBC's website, your Roku Streaming Stick+ (3810EU) is listed as one of the compatible Roku devices to access BBC iPlayer. Also, please be advised that Streamer and Set-top box are just device types. All Roku and NOW TV devices listed here are certified for use with the said channel.

Moreover, if you are experiencing an issue with the app, do you receive an error code or message? Please let us know more about the issue occurring so we can assist you further.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

All the best,
Kariza
