On more than one occasion I have searched for a movie on my Roku player and the results showed a free option, but when I clicked on that option it was a different movie with the same title. The image a description on the Roku search matched the movie I was looking for, but whoever catalogs these movies doesn't care to see if there is more than one movie with the same title and bother to differentiate them. On other occasions Roku search tells me a movie is free on the Roku channel, but when I select it it requires a subscription to some premium service. Please get your stuff together!
Hi @ldogg1981,
Thanks for posting in the Roku Community! We are glad to have you here.
We understand that when you tried to play a specific movie, a different film unexpectedly started instead, and this alternate movie did not match the title you intended to watch, causing confusion and disappointment. No worries, we would be more than willing to assist you with this.
To help you further, could you please provide the title of the movie you are referring to and the channel where you watched it? Additionally, if you could identify the specific movie that was playing, that would be helpful as well. Lastly, please share the title of the movie that you attempted to watch on the Roku channel that requires a subscription.
We look forward to your response and hope to get this sorted out soon.
Cheers,
Riamie
The title of the movie is "The Nativity Story" and the movie that played was a different movie with the same title. The picture and description of the movie did not match what played in the freevee app.
Hi @ldogg1981,
Thank you for your response.
As we have checked, there is a lot of "The Nativity Story" on the Roku channel store. Could you please tell us the specific title of the content? For example, is it "The Nativity Story" (2006) or "The Nativity Story" (2023)?
We'll wait for your update.
Thanks,
Riamie
I was searching for "the nativity story" 2006, and the image showed that movie. When I clicked the link for the movie the freevee app opened and played a different movie with the same title. The movie that played was a documentary with a voice over. I have no idea what year it was from.
The movie that played on freevee was the same title, but from 2023, and the image for the movie does not match what was shown when I searched on my Roku device. Is it hard to check this? If the title matches, but not the year, it is obviously not the same movie. I found the movie on another app, but it was in Spanish only. 😡 It is frustrating when you sit down with your family to watch the story of Christmas only to get some cheap documentary that was made on a $100 budget.
Thanks for keeping us posted, @ldogg1981
For this matter, we would recommend reaching out to Freevee's support and letting them know about the wrong movie that is played with the title on their app.
You can reach them at Amazon Freevee - Amazon Customer Service
In addition, the Nativity story (2006) is available to be streamed on multiple apps on Roku. For more information, you can visit How to watch and stream The Nativity Story
We hope you find this information helpful, and feel free to reach out to us if you have further concerns or inquiries.
Thanks,
Kash
The problem is with the search function on the Roku. When I go to the freevee app the title comes back with the 2023 version of the movie, with the image of the 2023 version. When I search for the movie using the Roku search I get the 2006 version image, and it says it is available on the freevee app. The 2006 version is NOT available on the freevee app. Roku search doesn't know the difference between the 2006 version and the 2023 version. Roku search sees the same title and assumes it is the same movie. Roku search needs to be fixed to verify it is the right movie. Also, Roku search needs to make it clear that a title is only available in Spanish on an app. Pretty frustrating to get excited to watch something only to realize that the audio is only in Spanish.
Hi, @ldogg1981
We appreciate your update.
Please be informed that the content offered by apps and channels is directly managed and controlled by the channel partner or provider.
Roku is limited to The Roku Channel only. Thus, it is advisable to contact the channel provider directly and let them know that the title of their content is playing the wrong movie. Once it is brought to their attention, the channel provider can correct the wrong movie and create a new title for the existing one referring to the 2023 version.
Additionally, we have provided the link above where you can watch The Nativity Story (2006) in other apps for free or with a subscription.
We hope for your understanding.
Thanks,
Kash
@RokuTakashiI am talking about the Roku Channel. On the homepage menu, I select "The Roku Channel", which then opens up to all the hundreds of channels seen in the guide, correct? I'm not referring to individual channel apps, or streaming services, like Netflix or Prime, but various stations within the Roku Channel category.
And since Roku hosts the station guide, listing all the channels and schedule of shows, I would think if some of the stations hosted are listing their programming incorrectly, it would be simple for Roku to reach out to them, to let them know they need to correct their schedule. We don't have access to all the hundreds of stations' contact information, but Roku does, so how can you expect individual users to report errors to them?
