What is copyright infringement? As a general matter, copyright infringement occurs when a copyrighted work is reproduced, distributed, performed, publicly displayed, or made into a derivative work without the permission of the copyright owner.

The Copyright Act of 1976 grants copyright holders’ exclusive rights to distribute their work, but it only applies to public performances. That being said, there is a stark difference between watching a stream by yourself and hosting a party using one of these unauthorized streams – the watch party could be considered a public performance and thus creating criminal liability while the private viewing has never been held to be a public performance. Furthermore, the Act distinguishes between simple the streaming of content and the actual downloading of the same content – streaming privately is not a violation but any downloading of the content most certainly is insofar as that is the creation of a copy. The Act further explains that copying and distributing these steams is a criminal violation, but again, the courts have held that simple private viewing of the stream does not constitute the creation of a copy and is thus not a violation.

Republican shills for Big Business did put forth new legislation at the end of 2020 to try to address this issue.

The Protecting Lawful Streaming Act of 2020 is a United States law that makes it a felony to engage in large-scale streaming of copyright material.

They tried to target these sites but the wording again says copyrighted material. New Court cases may have to decide the new laws effect.

My airwaves, my public internet.

So, you can see that this is an ongoing process. This new law has attempted to close what Big Business considers a loophole in Copyright law. Now, maybe we can get a new law to better protect the consumer from illegal business practices from these companies. Price fixing, restraint of trade, cartelism, and monopolization are all rampant

@RocknRef

What's been allowed so far with Locast is the streaming of the over the air content. Not cable/pay content.

Look at the Uzzu.tv schedule for tonight. See ESPN? That's not over the air. That's a cable/pay channel. Uzzu is pirating that. They're thieves. People are giving payment information to thieves.

Those are a bunch of pay channels they're pirating right there.

ESPN and other channels bream and stream their content through through the air via satellites and  internet airwaves respectively. You are so brainwashed that you believe these Mega Corporations have unfettered rights to OUR airwaves and utilities.

I would feel sorry for these companies if they werent constantly gouging, price fixing and arguing over their fees. TV is a utility that is regulated or is supposed to be. The new law may stop companies from profitting from the use of these signals companies freely semd over the air. Locast is non profit. I don't know how Uzzu is set up. They may have to change their structure under the new December 2020 law. No surprise it was a Republican (Sen. Thom Tillis) providing more welfare to Big Business like their tax cuts weren't enough.

However,  Locast is still completely legal even under the new law.

I would understand your feelings more if these mega-corporations that control cable, have stolen our internet, and price fix were in fair competition. Alas, they are not. Most Americans have one option for internet because the companies are in cahoots in splitting up the pie. Thats cartelism.

Prices for TV that was formerly free in my youth, and paid for with advertising has now spiraled out of control. Familes forced to pay $200-$300 per month for TV and Internet much of it with limited choices to choose the channels that they want. Its ridiculous and a scam. And we are often still forced to watch advertising.

Service is non existent with these companies because they have monopolized their areas and are allowed to franchise out these regions.

As long as they are ripping us off people will fight back. The Good Samaritans of Locast put this together to fight these criminal enterprises.

You are so worried about protecting a **bleep** storm like Disney Corp. Why dont you worry about the citizens who are getting ripped off.
