Re: Washed out colors when streaming YouTube TV or Live Sports
Hi Community Users!
We understand that some of you might have an issue with 4K live TV streaming.
TV manufacturers have various displays with varying resolutions and frame rates. Your Roku streaming player usually finds the best resolution and frame rate for your TV.
To change your display type settings, check out our support article on:
- How to get your player to detect the best resolution and frame rate for you.
- What settings to adjust to play 4K Ultra HD and HDR content at 60fps
If the issue persists, please provide the following information to help us investigate this issue further.
- Roku device model, serial number, device ID, and OS version. (this can all be found in Settings > System > About)
- Tracker ID (when you see this issue occur, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times, and provide us with this ID)
- Channel build version
- Specify the app or channel where the issue occurs.
Looking forward to your response!
Thanks,
The Roku Community Team

Re: Washed out colors when streaming YouTube TV or Live Sports
Please read this thread again as you don't seem to understand that this is a ROKU problem! the following circumstances have led me to believe this:
1. I will mention again: (I did come across a temporary work-around: Once you try to view a live 4K event that is subpar, go to: Roku Home>settings>system>software update>check now>OK then return to Roku home, select your app, for me You Tube TV and VOILA it's like it is supposed to be. The flaw in that is if you THEN tune to another program and GO BACK to the live 4k, it's washed out - not vivid!!!!!!!!)
2. I can load the You Tube TV app within my TV, bypass the Roku, and live 4K is fine!
3. I bought an Apple TV 4K yesterday AND live 4K and also non 4K looks like we wish the Roku could deliver!
4. Why don't you try referring this to the technicians to fix in lieu of asking us again for more data? You already have the screenshots of the disparity and the configuration settings you requested.

Re: Washed out colors when streaming YouTube TV or Live Sports
Sorry if you mentioned trying this already- But have you tried changing your ROKU display setting to 4k HDR (Not the Dolby Vision option AND NOT the auto detect setting)? This fixed it for me. Not sure if there is any benefit having vivid Dolby Vision or not versus 4k HDR (not familiar with the differences, if any)… but looks solid for me on my LG OLED after the change to hold the standard 4k HDR setting.

Re: Washed out colors when streaming YouTube TV or Live Sports
Thanks Jharra as I am grateful to be a part of getting to the solution. There is a live 4K event today on NBC Sports (not regular NBC) at 2:30 if that helps. Then Sat at 7:30 am on NBC Sports, then at 4:00 pm on ESPN.
(The Apple 4K I tried delivers but their remote uses bluetooth and for those of us who rely on Infra red programmables to operate our system we can't use!) So bottom line, i have my family trained on the Roku Ultra via Universal Remote and thus have every reason to get this worked out. I mentioned earlier that i am a video/resolution nerd with a new LG OLED, Roku Ultra, and stream via You Tube TV to max out with the best! As for my family's use of a programmable remote, ONE button press to: turn on and configure the TV, turn on and configure the sound system, and go to You Tube TV! thanks.

Re: Washed out colors when streaming YouTube TV or Live Sports
I just found this thread from a few weeks ago - has a solution been rolled out yet?
I first noticed the issue on Super Bowl Sunday trying to stream in 4K. The colors were EXTREMELY muted and washed out, the same as the other folks in this thread. All previous attempts watching live sports in 4K via the You Tube TV app (the World Series, Premier League soccer, NCAA football) were all FLAWLESS. Something changed around the time of the Super Bowl.
Tried watching another soccer game today - colors are still garbage. Standard HD image was colorful and vivid, as was the 4K image on an older, basic Roku device upstairs.
There's something that needs to be fixed on the Ultra units. My TV is a Sony Bravia 9, and I'm routing everything through an Onkyo RZ50 AVR. Playstation 5 works fine, as does my Sony UHD 4K disc player. Everything is updated.
Model: 4802X - Roku Ultra
Serial Number: X01000XNWUH9
Software Version: 14.1
Device ID: S0DA238NWUH9
