On Black Friday, I subscribed to MGM+, AMC+, and Paramount+ with Showtime as premium add-ons to the Roku Channel. Although I’ve installed the Roku Channel app on my Insignia Fire TV, the channel doesn’t show any of my premium subscriptions’ content. Is this just a limitation of the Roku app for Fire TVs, so I’ll have to connect an actual Roku device to the TV to fix this?
SOLVED: I just spoke to Roku Support. Even though the Roku Channel can be installed on a Fire TV, premium add-ons only work if they’re purchased as add-ons to an Amazon Prime subscription. If I want to see those channels, I’ll need to add a Roku device to the set and view them through that device.
I don't use them myself, but I searched and found this page:
https://www.roku.com/whats-on/the-roku-channel/premium-subscriptions/max
Which says: (under Terms and Conditions): "You can only view entertainment from your Premium Subscriptions on Roku devices, at http://TheRokuChannel.com , and on the Roku mobile app."
I can view them fine on the Roku Channel app everywhere (web browser and via the Roku Streaming Stick 4k) except on the app that I installed on the Fire TV. I’m thinking that the Roku app version specifically created for the Fire TV simply doesn’t see the add-ons.
Well that would be in agreement with their terms and conditions. ie: Roku: yes, browser: yes, other device: nope - not listed as a place you can watch them.
I think I answered my own question. I signed out and then signed back in to the Roku Channel app on the TV. No change.
But then I searched for a series in the Paramount+ add-on within the Roku Channel, found it, and then was given an option to subscribe to the add-in — which I already purchase — implying that it only sees the add-ins if I bought them through the website and not through the Roku Channel’s Fire TV app.
Thus, this is a bug.
