How can you get rid of having to use a pin?

Jump to solution

I want to add a channel without having to put in a pin.  How do I do it?  My son's friend set up my roku TV when my son bought my TV.  I didn't know that he set a pin to it, nor did he give me that information.  Because of it, I can't add channels to my TV without putting in the pin, which I don't know.

How do I get rid of having to use a pin to add channels to my TV?

Is this TV connected to your Roku account or your son's friend's Roku account?

If the latter, you may need to pretty much start over and create your own account to do much of anything.

If it's your own Roku account, you should be able to change (and maybe remove - I can't remember) the PIN by logging into your account at roku.com.

To add to what @Strega2 said, check the email address that's displayed on your Roku under Settings->System->About.  Is it yours? Your son's?  Your son's friend's?  That's the account that the PIN has been set up on.  The account owner can change the PIN at https://my.roku.com.  If it's your son's friend's email, you probably want to start over - factory reset your Roku device and create your own Roku account.

@GentleDianne-

Adding to both previous replies from @Strega2 and @renojim ...

When logged into the Roku account to which the Roku is linked, you can only change the PIN to a different 4-digit value, not remove it.   But you can choose to not have the PIN required for adding a channel or making purchases.

Hi, thanks for your info.  It's my son's email, however I asked him what the pin is and he doesn't know it since his friend set it up.  So, It's looking like I might have to do a factory reset.

It's connected to my son's email account.  I created an account here on my computer and thought it would change over or adapt on my TV via my internet/modem, however it didn't.  So, it looks like I'll have to do a factory redue...  Thanks for your help.

Your information was very beneficial to getting to the system settings, etc.  I found my son's email there, yet when I asked him for the pin, he didn't remember what it was.  It's been 4 years and the paper we wrote the information on, was lost when we moved... So, I'll have to do a factory reset.

You don't necessarily factory reset it if your son can log into his Roku account at https://my.roku.com .   He can change the PIN settings there.  If he forgot the password, but still has access to the email account, he can reset the password.
