I called Spectrum and they said it's a Roku issue. Where do I go from here? Is there anyone out there that has shared this issue that came up with a solution? Would love to get that feedback because guessing where to stop when fast forwarding and rewinding is really going to drive me bat***t crazy.
Unfortunately, spectrum isn’t telling you the truth. But I don’t necessarily blame the person you spoke with. Those people are usually working off a script, and have no technical expertise. Apps on different platforms are usually written in a different programming language, so they aren’t comparable. Roku devices are absolutely capable of showing a thumbnail as you ff or rewind, as many current channels can do it. This is something Spectrum has to address. There is no workaround.
@HGParks, to be honest - get a different device. There isn't a fix. Either Spectrum can choose to support Roku devices properly or not. Those thumbnails are created by the publisher and Roku supports a few ways to utilize them. Spectrum must not be interested in, or capable of, using one of the available methods.

Maybe Spectrum should read it as well.
Thank you for your response. When you say "get a new device" are you suggesting I replace my Roku tv? That's not happening, but it sure is frustrating trying to ff through commercials, zipping right through the show I'm watching and then rewinding to end up back in the commercials. I will be sharing the information you sent to me with Spectrum and I probably will go around in a few more circles with them until I give up. While I go around in circles about the remote that came with the Apple TV I had to get to record on my bedroom tv. I just shared the info you sent with this guy... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf5joxESP7M Never had any problems with DirecTV but it's not an option where I live now. 🤦♀️
I just chatted with a "tech" at Spectrum and forwarded along another message I received in response to this that included code from Roku to fix the problem.
Thank you! This answer regarding visual previews in the Spectrum App was exactly what I was looking for before spending a lot of money on Apple TV 4K. As of March 2022, Spectrum has still not bothered to add this functionality to their Roku app. The so-called "solution" did not adequately answer the question.
I have a Roku Premiere and even though it has worked OK for a year, recently it shows a large delay on the thumbnail screen when fast forwarding to avoid commercials. It does not happen on every recorded show but it is mainly on the news shows and several networks. It seems like the delay is 30 seconds to a minute or more so it is almost impossible to stop at the correct place. I have read all of these answers and it does not seem possible that this is not a Roku problem since it worked fine for a full year before acting up.
@chipnut Does this occur on a single channel, or do you see it across multiple channels? If it's just one, then the issue is likely the channel, not the Roku. I'm not seeing such behavior, but I don't know what channel(s) you are using.
@chipnut It would help if you explained which channel you are watching when this occurs. Since your saying fast forwarding through commercials you must be talking about a live tv service such as YouTube TV or DirecTV Stream
