I have linked my Roku account with the Google Home app, and my doorbell appears in the list of devices. I cannot, however, find a way to turn visitor announcements on or access any other device setting. Nor does the doorbell appear in the list of starter devices and, consequently, cannot be used to start an automation routine.
This post (replace all occurrences of "Wyze" with "Roku") outlines a method that would probably work with a Roku doorbell if a Roku plug is a Google Home automation starter device. I don't have a plug to test.
Is anyone using a Google Home Mini as a Roku doorbell press announcer?
The following method (based on this post) announces a doorbell press on a Google Home Mini, currently branded Nest Mini. The method will likely work with any Google Home/Nest speaker.
Required: Roku Video Doorbell [FrontDoor], Roku Smart Plug [FrontPlug], Roku Smart Home app, Google Home Mini [SpeakerName], Google Home app.
Assure that Roku Smart Home and Google Home accounts are linked (see this article). Turn the plug off.
On the Roku Smart Home app, create two Device Triggers [FrontPlugOn, FrontPlugOff]:
Trigger 1 allows Google Home to be informed of a doorbell press by the state of the plug (on); trigger 2 resets the plug (off) for the next doorbell press.
On the Google Home app, create a Household Routine [FrontChime]:
Starters - FrontPlug Turns on
Actions -
Configuration - Play on SpeakerName
Action 1 pauses the speaker, actions 2-5 play a sound effect (see this post) when the speaker is paused, and action 7 resets the volume.
