Re: SD card not detected in indoor camera SE

Jump to solution

We have this same issue with both indoor camera SE! 32gb SD card not detected in one camera but working fine in another identical camera. AND a 128gb SD card not recognized in any camera. We have exhausted all steps outlined here but unable to format the SD card through the app when the cameras do not recognize there is an SD card inserted. Is there any actual customer service support here with a phone number to speak with regarding this extremely aggravating and ongoing issue?

I've chatted and spoken with Roku Support. They are completely worthless, just parroting what's written in the docs. Apparently there is NO effort on Roku's part to fix this problem at all. I've just resigned myself to using the four 256GB SD cards I got for my four indoor SE cameras for other purposes. The automatic capture of regular little videos and the ability to record long ones has proven sufficient. BTW, I bought the annual subscription, but that sure doesn't get you any help with this technical issue.

Hi Community users,

Greetings from the Roku Community!

Thank you for reporting your concerns about the issue of your Roku Indoor Camera SE, which is unable to detect your microSD cards. No worries, we're here to help.

Please note that we recommend using 8GB,16GB, or 32GB cards in FAT-32 format.

We highly suggest you try the following troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Make sure the Roku Smart Home app and camera firmware are up to date.
  2. Reformat the microSD card.
  3. Remove the microSD card, power cycle the camera, then reinsert the microSD card. Click here: How to install a micro SD card in your Roku Smart Home Camera
  4. Remove the microSD card, factory reset the camera, then reinsert the microSD card. Click here: How to factory reset your Roku Smart Home device
  5. Check to see if another device (e.g., another camera, computer, etc.) will recognize the microSD card.

If multiple devices do not detect the microSD card, then it may be corrupted. If another device recognizes the microSD card, kindly provide the following details:

  • Type of microSD card:
  • Firmware version of the camera:
  • Roku Camera model:
  • Mac ID of the camera:
  • Log ID: (pull up your Roku Smart Home app home page > select Account > Roku Support > Submit a Log)

We look forward to your response.

Regards,
Riamie

Hi @Nfl79,

Welcome to the Roku Community!

We are glad you are inquiring about how to format the micro SD card if it was not detected by your Roku camera. We would be more than happy to assist you with this.

Since you will not be able to format the micro SD card from the Roku Smart Home app, you have to format it using your PC by following the steps below:

  1. Slide the micro SD card into the proper slot on your PC or card adapter with the metal contacts facing the correct way. A micro SD card only fits one way, so do not force it into the slot.
  2. Press the card firmly until you hear a "click"
  3. Open Windows Explorer and locate the drive letter for your micro SD card
  4. Open the drive and save any files you do not want to be erased
  5. Right-click the drive and select Format...
  6. Make a selection from the File system pull-down list based on the size of your micro SD card
    FAT32: 32GB or smaller
    exFAT: Larger than 32GB
  7. Click Start and confirm all data will be erased
  8. Remove the card and install it into your camera
  • Note: The Roku Outdoor Camera SE and its base station only support cards ranging in size from 8GB to 32GB with FAT32.

For more help, please visit our Roku Support article: How to format your micro SD card | Official Roku Support

We hope you find this information helpful.

Hi @Zchurch22,

Thanks for the response.

If none of the troubleshooting steps above resolved the issue, please inform us if you attempted to connect the microSD card to other devices and whether those devices were able to detect it. If they were unable to detect it, your microSD card may be corrupted and will likely need to be replaced. If the other devices were able to detect it, please let us know.

We look forward to your response.

Hi @Nfl79,

Thanks for posting in the Roku Community!

We understand that you are having an issue with the microSD card that was inserted into your Roku camera and not detected.

If none of your Roku cameras are not detecting the MicroSD card the card is corrupted. However, we would like to know the following:

  • Have you tried to reformat the microSD card using a computer?
  • Were your other devices, aside from the Roku cameras, able to detect the microSD card?
  • Did you try using another microSD card?

If your computer or other devices are unable to detect the microSD card, it may be necessary to replace it with a functioning card. Ensure that the replacement card is compatible with your device to avoid any further issues.

Please keep us posted.

Regards,
Riamie
