2 Factor Authentication with Text - Not email ?

Jump to solution

Can anyone tell me how to setup 2 Factor Authentication where you get the code via Text versus Email ?  It is a pain to have to go check your email every time.

Hi, @jgraver.

We appreciate you reaching us here in the Roku Community!

We'd be happy to assist you with the two-factor authentication on your account.

In this instance, we cannot use a text message, but there's another convenient way for you to access your account. If you own one or more Roku streaming devices linked to your account, you're allowed to use the last five characters from any of these device IDs to fulfill the two-factor authentication step.

To find your device ID, go to the Settings menu: Home > Settings > System > About. In this way, you no longer need to check your email for the verification code. Simply input the device ID to verify your account.

Furthermore, you can visit this support article on how to use two-step verification to sign in to your Roku account

We hope you'll find this helpful information. Let us know if you still have any questions.

Regards,
Reynan

Thanks I will try that.  The link you sent has these instructions and references a code sent to a phone and a phone number registration which contradicts what you said above about not being able to text a code. Also I do not have a Security option on my account page in the Roku mobile app ?

Hi, @jgraver.

Greetings from the Roku Community!

We'd be happy to assist you with the question about our Roku mobile app.

Only the Smart Home app and website have two-factor authentication. This adds an extra layer of security to protect your account and smart home devices from unauthorized access.

As for the support article, it did not indicate sending to a phone number, only through email addresses.

We hope you'll find this information helpful. Let us know if you still have any questions.

Well it absolutely says phone number from the link that says how to use 2 factor authentication on the smart phone app - note my smart home app does not have the options described in this article.  See screenshot below from the article on your support site.

Hi, @jgraver!

Thank you for responding to us!

The support article you're in is for the Smart Home app. We suggest trying to check the support article again to check.

We'd like to inform you that the Roku Smart Home app only uses a phone number for the two-factor authentication code, while the Roku website only sends it via email.

We hope you find this information helpful.

Reynan
