Roku pause button

I need to hit pause to read captions on films. But the default delay is so long and annoying it makes it impossible to watch a film. Is there any way to get around this? Can a second tv linked to Roku allow a sane pause function to be operational from the TV's remote -- to override Roku's default? (Recently I had to cancel my Criterion subscription.)

    Hey there, CCDriving!

We understand there's an issue with the pause button on your Roku remote. Let's investigate further.

    • Are you experiencing this issue on all apps or just a specific one?
    • Can you send us a video clip?

You can restart your Roku device by navigating to Settings > System > Power > System Restart. If there's no Power option, proceed to the next step.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

  • I had no idea what you meant by "delay" in this thread, but I found your other thread and I think you mean that the UI comes up when you pause - and apparently goes away after some delay.  Try pressing the back button (the one in the top left of the remote.)  Only press it once each time though or you will back out of the video itself.  Keep in mind that this may all be dependent on what app(s) you are using.

Yes, I suppose you could put some kind of buffering device in front of a Roku and pause/freeze frame that.  Of course, the Roku will continue playing so you'll want to pause both devices.  (Pause the Roku 2nd so the device in front gets a clear view.)

As for what I mean by "delay," try watching a film, press the center button (which stops the film) and see what ensues.

If there's a way to impose a simple stop/proceed process (as on a DVD remote) please let me know. I've tried everything.

Have you tried the back button?  What app(s) are you using?

This might be an app-specific function, so we need to know what app you're using when this occurs. Also, what specific model of Roku are you using? Not the name, but the model number.
