Replacement simple remote does not have a pairing button or LED. and scam alert against Hello Tech.

I have an old ROKU streaming stick and the remote that does have an LED and pairing button quit working.  I bought a new simple remote which just arrived and it has no button or LED for pairing.

It also does not work on the streaming stick.  Did I get the wrong remote?  There was only one simple remote available to order for replacement.  The ROKU website only says the remote without the pairing button does not need pairing.  It does not say how to make it work.

I also have a scam alert.  Hello Tech is a scam site that comes up first in any search for ROKU.

According to the online chat in which I assumed was ROKU talking to me, they wanted $79.00 to send out a technician to get my remote working.  I jumped all over them calling them scammers and they finally admitted they were not ROKU.  S.O.B.'s!

I should have been more diligent looking at the address bar but their website is conveniently similar to ROKU's.  I was taken in but not taken.

nd they finally admitted they were not ROKU.   S. O. B.'s!

Sorry but you did buy the wrong remote. The simple Roku remote is IR only remote, but Roku Sticks only respond to wifi remote, which all have pairing buttons.

  • Yep, that's why I came here! To scream about how these MORONS can't even make the simplest app that can even find the brand new Roku tv I bought yesterday and that is currently plugged in and turned on 2 feet in front of me - yet thus idiotic app Roku produced States it still, after almost an hour of me trying various things I could think of (since Roku made no suggestions except **bleep** 2 yr olds would even know! 😠), it is simply unable to tell that a brand new Roku television was within inches of it!!! Not a thing useful posted by the company online either! Rude jerks, they blame all errors on customers who must have forgotten to sign in to the identical wifi, or that the software is up to date, or that turning the device &/or it's software should be turned on and off and that the 2 devices should be located in the same room!!!! They think customers everywhere are complete morons. I highly suggest to you all to never look up anything from Roku for help!!! Or you will either end up committing murder on them or sadly suicide on yourself since those Roku jackasses do like to try to convince humanity that we are all wrong!! Only they know what is right!! πŸ€¬πŸ–•πŸ˜‘

A frikkin men brother!  I am a troubleshooting technician and have been for over twenty years.  I know what I ordered and I know what I recieved was the wrong remote despite what these answers are.  I also sent it back and still have NOT received my refund even though I obtained an RMA #.  I did send an email to that effect and received an answer asking for a tracking number.  Hmmmm, that says to me their RMA system doesn't work or they are flooded with returned product.

Please advise which remote you bought for the Roku that will replace my simple remote that does not have a pairing button and only works on two buttons within an inch of the receiver.

It is also really sad that the Roku devices have to be wifi which creates its own problems instead of a more stable direct connect option with a static IP that I prefer.

To my post about the new Express not booting,  I took it to another TV and it booted just fine.  I removed it and replaced it on the TV I had it on before and now it works.  I still have my original Roku stick and remote that just quit.

  • I wonder what search engine you use?  I typed roku into Google, Bing and Duck Duck go and didn’t get HelloTech on the first page.

I did find HelloTech by searching for them specifically and I am not convinced they are a scam.  They appear to be a company that will send you a tech for a fee and do things like take a TV out of the box, hang it on the wall, and connect it to devices and services for people who don’t want to do such things themselves.

    • Fyi, I just refuse to allow bad companies keep my money so I returned their product and bought a universal remote.  I hadn't at first because Roku products are advertised as needed only brand products for good functionality of their devices but it turns out they lie about that too!! Lol :)  Cheaper remote and app plus they WORK! πŸ‘πŸ˜€  Easily! Virtually no effort needed!!!

I didn't just type in roku, I typed in the problem I was having about pairing with a new replacement ROKU Simple remote.  I cannot tell you the exact words but I saved the entire conversation.  I had 30 years as an alarm technician/ service technician so I do know a bit about what I am talking about and I have had my fill of  tech support that does not listen and online chats that do not read what I type.  I try to explain the problem in the initial text as a basis of where I am in the troubleshooting process.

The conversation started to go downhill from the tech support's first reply by not reading it was a Simple remote without a pairing button as in the photos and drawings they show in their instructions online.  By the way, the remote came in a plastic bag with no instructions.  Later on, they wanted to schedule an appointment for a tech to come out and pair it for me for $80.  That's when I called them scammers for selling me a remote that would not work, without any instruction manual, then offer to have someone else with the knowledge to pair it for more money.  This is when they admitted they were not ROKU.

Enough about them, I "assumed" because of several factors and was again burned because I "assumed".

We have now determined I have the wrong replacement SIMPLE remote. I saw nowhere on the website a choice of IR or pairing.  That being here nor there, how do I return it and what is the correct one I need to ask for?

OK folks, I finally bit the bullet and decided none of your responses would fix my problem.  I bout another Roku Express and within a week the remote quit.

Just today, I exchanged it for a brand new Roku Express, now the new one won't boot  I keep getting the Roku boot page then it goes away and the light on the Roku device is yellow instead of green like the last one and flashes one one second long flash then one short flash, then repeats.

C'mon gurus, show me your stuff.

      Thanks for the post.

Can you please specify which Express device you purchase and are experiencing an issue with?

With more details we will be able to assist you further.

      Thanks,
