Software mismatch between two Roku devices; Apple TV tile disappears

I have two streaming stick 4K's.

One is on software 15.0.

The other is on 14.6.4 - but when I go into settings and check for an update, it says I'm up to date.

Is this known behavior?

Also the device with 15.0 has a problem with the Apple TV tile disappearing even though the app is installed, so Roku engineering may want to look into this!

Yes - RokuOS 15 hasnt been officially announced or released - its still in beta testing, which is why one of your devices has it (selected for testing) and the other doesnt (not selected for testing).

Once OS 15 is officially announced and released (a build is determined to be stable enough) you'll be able to manually update both (if necessary).

The "disappearing or missing app tile" issue is well known recently and is not OS-version/build-specific (in fact its due to bugs in RokuOS middleware modules), though it does need better handling by Roku software engineers to (finally) quash it.

  • According to this page, 15.0 should be widely available by the end of October (ie. now): https://support.roku.com/article/228844467

So the implication is that it’s not beta software. If it is beta, why would I be partipating in a beta without my knowledge?I didn’t volunteer to be a beta tester and would prefer to be on stable software.

Sashazur , welcome to Roku.  You pretty much get no choice as to whether or not you get to be a beta tester.  Your other stick will get v15 when it gets it.

Again, OS 15.0 has not been 'officially' announced or released (yet - though this has reduced significance due to below).

Roku has both RELEASE and BETA update (firmware/middleware) servers - devices configured for the Beta servers can/may receive both Beta version/builds and Release versions/builds, whereas devices configured for the Release servers only receive Release versions/builds (and therefore receive far fewer firmware/middleware updates).

(A RokuOS firmware version+build is determined to be of Release status when Roku decides it is stable enough/etc per their criteria/requirements, at which point it becomes available via the Release servers - this often includes version+builds that have already been available/installed via the Beta servers)

By default all RokuOS devices are configured to receive firmware & middleware updates from the BETA update servers - this means that all Roku users are unwitting involuntary participants in a forever ongoing Beta program (FYI, this is not unique to Roku).

Devices can/may be configured to use the RELEASE update servers instead:  Home 5x, FF 3x, RW 2x, Cycle SWUP server  - be warned that in order to switch back to the BETA update servers the device must be Factory Reset.
