Problem with up, down, side to side buttons scanning to fast

I haven't had Roku that long (less than 6 months) and I've had to replace my batteries at least 3 times with high grade batteries. However, that's not my current issue. Both of my remotes seem to be doing the same thing, when I go to hit the up, down, or side buttons my scanning on my tv glides past the selected channel, or network I'm trying to select.

I tried pairing the romotes, I've taken out the batteries, and replacing them however I get the same result. I don't know what to do!!!

I hope someone out there understands what I'm trying to convey, and can provide me with some assistance other than having to go an buy another remote.

  • Hi Pameladee,

Thanks for posting, and welcome to the Roku Community!

We appreciate you sharing this information with us, and we apologize for the trouble. We recommend performing a system restart to see if it improves the situation. To do this, navigate to Settings > System > Power (skip if no sub-menu) > System Restart. In addition, you can power cycle your Roku Streaming device by unplugging it for 1 minute and plug it back it.

Let us know how this works.

    All the best,
    Kash

Your problem may not be with your remote, but with your Roku's response to the remote. As with so many problems with electronic devices, a restart may be all it needs. [Note: If you have a Roku TV with "Fast TV Start" enabled, turning it off/on puts it in/out of a standby mode but does not give you a full restart.]

Depending on your Roku model you'll find the "System restart" option under "Settings > System > Power" or if you don't have a "Power" option, under "Settings > System".

    • If a restart doesn't do it, or if you don't have sufficient control with the remote to navigate the Roku menus, you can also restart by pulling the power plug to the Roku for a few seconds then plugging it back in and waiting for it to restart.
  • I'm having a similar situation with my remote it won't scroll from left to right.  If someone can help me I would appreciate it so much. I just got this.
