Need to hide Roku device

I have the Roku 4K with IR remote.  My wife wants all devices out of sight (behind a cabinet door).  I don't want to go through the hassle of setting up an IR extender.  Is there an RF remote that will work with this player?  Alternatively, do the more advanced players come with RF remotes?  I was thinking about the Ultra model to get the USB feature anyway.  Would this solve my problem?

  • What model Roku. You can go to Settings/About to get the exact model number. Many basic Roku models (probably various Express versions) ship with IR remotes, but may work with an RF remote. Most mid and high models come with the RF remote.

The voice remotes are RF-based. You can verify if your original remote is IR by simply covering the front of the remote and seeing if you can control the Roku with it.

Roku 4K with IR remote is likely the Express 4K, model 3940.

    Two ways to go:

    1. Purchase a Roku Voice Remote (replaceable batteries) or Voice Remote Pro (rechargeable) to replace your current IR remote.  Voice Remotes connect to ANY Roku in the current product line, including your 3940, via wifi-direct that permits you to place your Roku out of sight in a cabinet.

    2. Other than the Express 3930 and your Express 4K 3940, all of the other currently available Roku models come with a Voice Remote.  So you could place the new Roku in the cabinet, and your 3940 could then be used on an additional tv in another room.

I went to the products page to find the Voice Remote.  When I selected it, the page said "no compatible devices linked to your account".  I checked my account info; and it had the Roku 4K Express listed.  It sounds like it may be an error on the page; but it also doesn't make sense to buy something when it is telling you it is not compatible.

I think it should be compatible, but I'd also be leery of buying something when it says "no compatible devices".  If you post the model number displayed under Settings->System->About Tivoburkee can probably give you a definitive answer of whether it works.

You may just want to get one at a local store with a good return policy and give it a try.
