Roku 3 is still being supported by Roku, and it is capable of running the current Roku 11.5 operating system.
What remote did you buy? The 4200 is listed as being compatible with current Roku Voice Remotes (Source: https://support.roku.com/article/360010940514):

Video from Roku re how to pair point-anywhere remotes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK3T6eXqPU8If instead, you purchased the Roku Simple Remote, unlike the point-anywhere remote that came with the Roku 3, this is an infrared (IR) remote that must have a direct line of sight to the IR receiver on the front of the Roku 3. You can't mount a Roku 3 out of sight if you want to use an IR remote. IR remotes can't be paired with a Roku, they just work with any IR-equipped Roku (i.e. all Rokus except Streaming Stick models).
