I am having the same issue - I am connecting a brand new Premier in a hotel room.  It did ask if I was in a hotel or dorm room, I went through the steps to get it set up on my laptop but had to stop.  Now it won't ask me again, it just says unable to update software every time I connect to the hotel wifi.  Rebooting the Roku hasn't helped.

Danny i appreciate you email and link but I think the issue we are all having is that the solution you keep linking to DOES NOT WORK.

I intermittently get asked the "hotel or dorm" question but then it times out in 5-10 seconds and goes away so i can never get it setup.

If there is a better solution we can try to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks

  • So I followed the "what was best to fix" solution offered up by the useless Roku support and that was to go in and reset the network connection. This was as expected, useless, so, what I did find that works well is that every roku has a screen mirroring set up. We have the little cheap roku express and it worked normally (regularly) for a couple of weeks then it would just lag, connect, disconnect, it just worked aweful so, we turned on the mirroring on the roku set up then opened what we wanted to watch on our samsung A2 tablet and YES!! Now,  we did have to put the tablet close to the Roku but thats the easiest best fix, you don't have to use your Hotspot but whatever you use to connect through your roku use that once it basically turns on and walla. If you don't get the hotel or dorm option we reset the roku (which took an hour to reload) maybe longer, but once we did that just follow the instructions and that option should reappear.  Hope this is something that works for you.

  • I truly think hotels are catching on and adding fire walls or blocking certain devices or websites from being accessed to avoid people using all their bandwidth. I'm in a hotel now and my roku works fine but as soon as I open an app, the screen goes black. If I hit the home button, it goes back to the main screen. The last hotel I was at had similar results where I was just not able to use my roku service on their network at all. I don't think its an issue with the device but we're being blocked on the hotels end.

Strange….. I bought an Amazon fire stick after experiencing these issues with the Roku stick, been using it in the same hotels as the ones my Roku won’t work in (and others) for months now with absolutely NO issues 🤔🤔🤔…. Roku stick still not working in said hotels even after hard reset etc, etc as advised by Roku/previous posts!

  • Is there any way to force the roku to ask me into hotel mode? I travel for work and bought the 4K roku express so that I could watch my streaming services on the go. However after connecting one time to Hilton's Wi-Fi it never prompts me into hotel mode again. I'm guessing this probably has to do with Hilton recognizing the Mac address after wifi refresh. However is there a way to force the roku to bring up hotel mode?
