Excellent wifi strength but roku has no internet?

So I have an excellent wifi signal strength connection but no internet.

I have reset my router, restarted the tv, gone to advanced setting and reset the network connections, and even factory reset the Roku tv. I even tried changing my router channel to 1, 6, and 11. Nothing is working.

I tested my iPad, phone, laptop, and Switch and each are able to connect with 20mb/s.

I have a TCL Roku tv and a Roku Premier both experiencing this same thing.

  • Hopefully this helps for you guys. I was able to solve my connectivity problem by opening the Wi-Fi secret menu and adjusting my router based on the antenna strength and glitch/sec bars. I had to move my tv about an inch forward which dropped the glitch/sec down to 1/4 the bar. Before the inch move it was maxed. Stupid, I know. But, it seemed to work.

To access the secret menu you have to go to the home screen and hit the following button order quickly: Home, Home, Home, Home, Home, Fast Forward, Play, Rewind, Play, Fast Forward.

This opens the secret menu. I selected Wireless Secret Screen which shows the Antenna and Signal Strength and the Glitch/sec. I then reset my drivers and adjusted my tv (moved it forward about an inch) and the glitch/sec went from max to 1/4 bar.

Since I've done this I haven't had any connectivity issues. Hopefully this helps others who were experiencing the same error.

I tried the button pressing to access secret wifi. That doesn't work. I gave up. It worked fine last night and this morning no internet connection with my Comcast cable. I ended up buying a fire stick and now have 3 Roku devices that do not work with my Comcast cable provider. Extremely frustrating.

Been posted numerous times throughout the Community pages over the last month.

For those have Xfinity and Comcast, the resolution to most of the connection issues with 2.4ghz Roku devices has been to change the "Mode" setting from g/n to b/g/n.

You can change this setting either at the router or the app (if applicable).  Additionally it has been mentioned that selecting "Forget Devices" (pertaining to the connected Roku devices) from the ISP app has also helped users to establish new connection.

Well good for you, read with hope, but our issue is 3 Roku connected successfully, 2 disconnected, which will not accept our same valid wifi Linksys password even after rebooting, factory reset and trying to start up again numerous times. Roku solution to this on support chat it to call Linksys AND CHANGE THE WIFI PASSOWOOD, which I would have to do on 2 pc's 3 roku's, 2 phones, 7 devices!!!! What? We run a home business here and are in our 70's!!!! NOT HAPPY!

  • Same problem.  Called my internet provider, got a new fast router and called their support twice, no help from Roku, can't get through.  Was able to "chat" with a Roku tech for a short while, they couldn't help and got off the thread when they realized they didn't know.  Bought  new Roku today and this one won't connect either.  Bringing the Roku back to the store tomorrow and buying a firestick, won't EVER buy a Roku TV, no way.  Absolutely no customer service.  Will no longer be a customer.

  • When the roku tv makes the wireless connection, it is verifying both wireless and internet connectivity before it completes successful.  It looks like that is what is happening to you, but the download speed is low.  If your other devices on the network are working ok, then the problem may be that where the tv is located.  Try moving it to a different location to see if this works better, at least you will know if that is the cause.  If that does not improve, I would go to the settings to reset the network to default and try again.

I have (and have had for months) this same issue. All of my connections are solid and I have no issues with other devices on the network. My router is less than 20 ft from my TV with no walls in between. Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

there used to be a channel called SPEEDTEST to install and test but think you have to go to something like Netflix.  You can check your internet connection speed from the channel to see if it's the same.  But more important, are you able to start a video stream or does the channel not connect because there is no internet?

  • I simply had to reply to this...read on and see why.

I had your identical problem.  I did lots of research.  I went through all the steps.  Even using the secret menu.  Bupkus!

In desperation I finally called the cable provider (you know the one - the one that rhymes with Bombast).  After many button pushes I was finally connected to a RLH (Real Live Human).

Who PATIENTLY listened to all of my concerns.  Then pinged the router, reset it remotely, had me unplug my Roku and plug it back in.

Who knew that you could achieve constant 25 MBps?  The clarity!  Gosh...it's like going from cave drawings to 4K instantly!  After a couple years of this service I thought normal was 3 Mbps and buffering was just to be expected.

Little did I know that one call to the internet provider would cure it all in mere moments.

There are so very few tales told of outstanding customer service that I felt obligated to share this one.

Best of luck to you, reader!

  • This happened to me randomly one morning, after resetting the router and doing a hard restart on the TV oh, that still did not work. What did finally work was wiping roku system cache partition. Using the Roku remote:

    1. Press the home button 5 times

    2. Press the F button on the direction pad once

    3. Press the rewind button twice, then the forward button twice.

This system will freeze for 10 seconds then restart oh, it should fix the problem. I would do this reset procedure about once a month

  • Same issue - ROKU sees the wifi, but no live as can't see the internet - stupid idea!!

OK my service provider is xfinity - rebooting ROKU or my XFinity router didn't fix, BUT.... going into the XFinity router settings - and selecting splitting the wifi channels to enable showing 2.4 and 5GHz channels. worked nicely.  Save and Exit.  Check on ROKU - (internet service via xfinity.

You need to access the Xfinity router via a wifi connected laptop.

    Happy streaming.

I had this problem. I was able to change my Wi-Fi radio channel from 11 to 6. It dropped my glitch rate (available through the Roku secret Wi-Fi menu) from 8000+ to 0-10. Something near or in my house must’ve recently introduced a ton of interference on channel 11.

Hopefully you have a router that supports channel selection. It’s usually in advanced settings. If so, test this change to see if it helps.

  • If you have metro pcs . Their phones apn seetings don't work you have to create a new apn setting. And add. ",dun" to what is already listed under the apn type.  Took me 9 months to solve this problem. All 3 of my rokus connect now no problem.
