Error 009 on one Roku device

As the title states im getting the error code 009 but all my other devices are connected fine to the same router. It’s clearly an issue with the tcl roku tv. I would love a solution because it’s happened before and factory reset didn’t work, network reset didn’t work. Leaving it unplugged for a length of time didn’t work. Many of the other post suggest contacting your ISP, which seems pointless because I have phone,Amazon devices and laptops that all connect just fine to the router and have Internet. It is clearly an issue with the TV.

  • Hello. I am having the same problem. My Roku TV connected to my tablets hotspot, but will not connect to hotspot from my phone. Unfortunately, my tablet gets 2gb of hotspot data, but my phone has 25gb. Both are on my family share plan from MetroPCS. Why does the tablet hotspot work, but not the phones?

      It seems you're having trouble connecting your Roku TV to your mobile hotspot. We'd like to look more into this issue. Please provide us with some details. 

      • Could you tell us what troubleshooting steps you've tried so far?
      • Mobile device model/make
      • Roku device model, serial number, device ID, and OS version and build. (This can all be found in Settings > System > About)
      • Tracker ID (press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times on your Roku remote)

        Hello. I have tried all the standard reset tricks. I have a Onn Roku TV, and a Hisense Roku TV. Neither will connect to the hotspot from my Revvl 7 phone. 

        I tested the hotspot on multiple other devices. 2 old phones, a tablet, an iPad, and my Xbox one. I was able to use all of these without issue. I streamed a TV show, and did some online gaming for 1 hour on the Xbox, via my mobile hotspot from my phone.

        Neither Roku TV will connect to it. TV says last updated 6/5/25. Running version 14.5.4

        Any thoughts?

    Hey, Rokusux 

    It looks like you're experiencing error 009, which is preventing your Roku TV from connecting to the internet. Thanks for trying workarounds. Error 009 typically indicates a Roku internet connection issue, even if the TV is connected to the router. Please share more info. 

    • How many devices are connected to the internet?
    • How close is the Roku TV to the router?
    • Have you attempted to connect the Roku TV to the mobile hotspot?

    In the meantime, restart the Roku TV by going to Settings > System > Power > System > Restart, and restart the router by unplugging it, waiting a few seconds, and plugging it back in.
