Apple TV and AirPlay not working

When I try to open the Apple TV app, it says "Apple TV could not not be run because it could not be reinstalled from the network. Please check your network connection and try again." It's saying the same thing regarding AirPlay. My network connection is working perfectly fine, and other applications are able to be run no problem. I have tried:

- Restarting my Roku.

- Checking that my Roku and my Apple TV are updated.

- Uninstalling and reinstalling the application.

- Unplugging the Roku, waiting several minutes, and plugging it back in.

I've searched this community and nothing has been helpful or provided any information to solve the issue. It seems that Roku also does not have any kind of email, support chat, or help line. Feeling frustrated by this - does anyone have any information on how it might be fixed?

  • Hi kessbass, Thomas1166,

    Welcome to the Roku Community!

Thanks for letting us know about the trouble you've experienced with the Apple TV and Airplay not working on your Roku device. We also appreciate all the steps you have taken to resolve the issue.

In this case, we recommend these quick steps: navigate to Settings > Advanced system settings > Network connection reset > Reset connection.

Additionally, could you please restart your router/modem and mobile device and then attempt to reconnect your Roku device?

Let us know if this works for you!

    Thank you,
    Chel

        Hey, @HatesRocu.

Thanks for posting here in the Roku Community!

We're sorry you're experiencing an issue with Airplay, and that the troubleshooting steps you did weren't helpful. No worries; we're here to help you sort this out.

To clarify, what exactly is happening when trying to do an Airplay? (Buffering issues, not connecting, freezing and lagging, or your device won't appear on the Airplay options). Also, is this only happening to Apple TV or you're experiencing this on all channels?

Let's try to figure this out together!

  • Same problem. On ALL Roku devices. For almost a year, now. No response from Roku.

Rebooting the TV used to help. Not anymore. Only solution we’ve found is to buy an AppleTV. AirPlay works great on there.

It is truly poor to have a function that worked for years suddenly disappear. Especially when the AirPlay logo is integrated into the Roku menu.

    Deeply disappointed in Roku.

Thanks for sharing this AirPlay issue, which is not working on the Roku device.

Can you fill us in on what’s happening with AirPlay? Are you dealing with buffering, connection drops, freezing, or lagging? Is your device not showing up in the AirPlay options? Are you seeing any error messages? Also, is this issue just with Apple TV, or is it affecting all your channels?

      Looking forward to your response.

Like I said, all of the above.

All the TVs are connected to HomeKit. I can see them on my devices as an option for AirPlay.

I choose the TV I want to stream to. Nothing happens. The image disappears from my phone (or Mac, or iPad) and DOESN’T show up on the TV screen.

A cold reboot of the TV used to help. But even that doesn’t work anymore.

SOMETIMES the Roku will begin to display my content only to drop it inside 30 seconds, or less. After that, it won’t work again.

Extremely frustrating. We were early buyers of Roku when they first came out. AirPlay worked for years. Now? Nothing. Why?
