Wireless Doorbell Won't Record Videos Or Pictures Manually

I have the wireless doorbell.  When I go into the app and select the doorbell if I try to record the camera video to my phone or take a picture manually it says to allow permission to my storage for Smart Home to take pictures and videos.  I went into my phone settings for my apps and gave Smart Home permissions for every listed under app permissions.  I still get the same item and it still won't record or take pics.  It is an android phone by the way.

    Hi, KY2

Greetings, and welcome to the Roku Community.

We appreciate you for sharing this information with us, and we'd be more than glad to assist. To make sure that the Smart Home records the pictures and videos, you need to ensure that you have allowed the storage and other important aspects under the app permission so that the Roku Smart Home app is able to have full access and record the videos and images.

Additionally, you may want to restart your Android phone to have optimal usage.

Please keep us posted regarding this, and we can assist you further.

    Best wishes,
    Kash

Hi can you please respond to the other posts in this string? It seems like a number of us are having the identical issue.

I have removed the doorbell and reinstalled.  Did not fix it.  I have deleted the app and did not fix it.  I have restarted my phone and did not fix it.  I deleted the app off my Google Pixel 8 and installed it on an old iPhone I have.  Worked perfectly.  Uninstalled the app from the old iPhone.  Installed it back on my android.  Still does not work.  Granted every permission possible.  My other cameras work perfectly.  This is clearly an issue with android.  After the app issue with the android and now this you would think Roku would be pushing harder to get their android game together.

This is not helpful and one of the basic things that everybody knows to do. You think we'd be posting this if we didn't try those.

        Hi JJTech,

Greetings from the Roku Community, and thanks for raising this concern directly with us!

We understand you're having a problem with the Roku wire-free doorbell camera. We're happy to assist you further. You can set your smart home camera or video doorbell to record an event when it detects motion and/or sound. If neither detection setting is enabled, the camera will not record events. You can change detection settings for motion and sound in the app.

        1. Select your camera from the home screen.
        2. Tap Settings in the corner.
        3. Tap Event Recording.
        4. Toggle each detection setting on or off.

You can change the zone detection, motion tagging, and sensitivity settings further to adjust when an event recording is triggered. If you purchase a smart home subscription, smart detection can be used to identify when an event is triggered by a person, pet, vehicle, or package.

If the problem still exists, please keep us posted.

        Best regards,
        John

I'm having the same issue. I have given every permission available that I can see but it's still telling me to give access to the storage.

        Hi ImUncleFester

Thanks for sharing your first post here in the Roku Community!

We see that this is also affecting your device. Try to reinstall the app and set it up again to see if that reproduces the same issue.

        Keep us posted!

        Thanks,
        Rey

  • I have the same issue. I can't even submit logs. I don't think they know how to solve it. I have been calling in since March. I was told to add a memory card and I just shook my head because then I knew they didn't know anything because the doorbell camera doesn't have a SD card slot. I have every permission on and still cant download, take pic or record from my video doorbell. And my sound doesn't work sometimes.

      Hello! Cjohns910910,

Thanks for your first post in the Roku Community!

We’re sorry to hear about the issue with your Roku Wireless Doorbell not recording videos or pictures, and we’re happy to help!

      Please follow these troubleshooting steps:

      1. Ensure your Roku Smart Home app and doorbell firmware are up to date.
      2. Check the Event Recording settings:
        • Make sure Detects Motion and Detects Sound are turned on.
        • Go to Doorbell Live Stream > Settings > Event Recording.
        • Make sure there are no event recording schedules set. Toggle All Day ON if necessary.
      3. Adjust the detection sensitivity:
        • Turn it up to 100 via Doorbell Live Stream > Settings > Detection Zone.
        • If you get too many notifications, lower the sensitivity by 5-10 notches.
      4. Check for scheduled Rules that might affect event recordings:
        • Tap the [...] in the Roku Smart Home app > Edit Rules.
        • Verify if you’ve set any rules that could be affecting this.
      5. Test your WiFi connection:
        • Check if other devices on the same network can access the internet.
        • If not, reboot your router.
      6. Power cycle the doorbell:
        • Flip the breaker switch for 10 seconds and turn it back on.
        • Check your network connection and signal strength. If it’s below 3 bars, try moving the camera closer to the router.
      7. If needed, perform a factory reset:
        • Press and hold the setup button on the doorbell until the status light turns solid yellow.
        • Once it flashes again, set it up as a new device.

If the issue continues, contact your ISP to resolve network issues.

Please keep us updated on your progress, and we’ll be happy to help further if needed.

      Thanks again,
      The Roku Community Team

Thanks for your lengthy reply but I never said I couldn't get my camera to record anything. I said when I press the camera or record icon this message pops up

"Turn on access to your Storage to let Roku save videos and photos to your album".

I literally have all permission checked. I have had my internet provider send a tech out here and they said my service was find. I even got a new modem and router. You all told me it could be my phone, so, I got a new phone and the same problem is still happening and no agent can tell me or the rest of the community that has this same issue how to really solve it. I have emailed you pictures since I can not post them on here because it is more than 3mb
