Unable to cancel Roku Channel App

I wanted to download the History vault app so that I could watch a program called the universe. Instead Roku decided to sell me a Roku channel on Roku live TV that I did not want and then they would not cancel it so that I could not get the actual thing that I did want. Now I'm stuck with this stupid channel that does not pause or rewind or fast forward or have any of the episodes that I actually want later than 2012!! I'm so frustrated! Nobody should make you have something that you can't cancel. Ever. That is shady business practices.

Go to your online dashboard at https://www.roku.com/.  After signing in, you should be able to manage your subscriptions from there and cancel. (should still be able to use for remainder of the month.)

When signing up for subscriptions, it is usually a better idea to go to the provider's website.  Find something you want on Roku, then look to see if a direct subscription is available.  (this will usually allow you to watch on both Roku and non-Roku devices).

Many times Roku offers the same "channel 'x' on the Roku Channel") so will usually promote that subscription.  Just have to look around a bit and explore options before signing up for subscriptions. (some methods provide better deals than others).

For the History Vault, you will find the channel/app here in the online Roku Streaming Store (History Vault) and the website https://www.historyvault.com/

Both the 'History Vault' and the 'History Vault on the Roku Channel' are offering 7-day free trials so you should have no issue cancelling and trying the other if that is your preference..

Yeah that was my bad for not paying closer attention, but I also feel that Roku was taking advantage of that possibility. Why would I possibly want the Roku live channel of an app that I could have and access directly? It just seems like they're insinuating themselves where it is less value for more hassle. And then I got irritated again just trying to reply to you because I had to keep signing in and waiting for an email to send me a code like why does that have to happen every single time I sign in 15 minutes apart from each other?

I'm sorry I think that there is a lot of room for improvement. I'm not about to do the mental labor of explaining every single glitch that I run across that causes a problem or this type of thing where there's shady business practices involved but you should take the bulk of comments seriously.

Certainly understand the confusion and frustration.  Many of us only know these things through experience and making some of these perceived mistakes ourselves.

Even when I look at subscription providers, they are very vague at times.  I have signed up for some free trials in the past from different providers. Sometimes this "free trial" is really a pro-rated discount off a full month's subscription price.  At other times, it really is a no-catch free trial as long as you cancel within the alotted time.

Another thing I have learned is not to take advantage of a year's discounted price unless I have already experimented with their monthly subscription.  Sometimes easier to pay a couple of dollars more to have the freedom to walk away if service begins to underperform or develops issues.

Personally, I have not had issues with RokuPay (the channel x on the Roku Channel offerings) or using the free offers from Roku for channels/apps but others certainly have.  Unfortunately, in an attempt to make it easier for users to access/purchase subscriptions from their devices,  not all the options available for a subscription are presented on the screen.  (and sometimes the channel partners don't offer that information to Roku to display).

As for the 2-factor authorization (the email confirmation for login), you can disable that in the online dashboard over at https://www.roku.com/.
