Disney Plus with Ads not on ROKU

ROKU is not enabling the new Disney Plus with ads subscriptions on any of its devices!!!!

ROKU enables other cheaper subs with ads like HULU and Netfllx but not the new Disney Plus with ads.   I already have 3 ROKU devices but am thinking of getting an Amazon stick for the TVs if ROKU is becoming less dependable.

    Please be advised that Disney plus remains available on Roku, however, Disney plus Basic is not currently supported. We will let customers know if it becomes available in the future.

    Good news! We're happy to announce that Disney Plus Basic (With Ads) is now available on Roku.

    Please be advised that Disney Plus Basic (With Ads) does not require installing a separate channel. Roku users can change subscriptions directly from their Roku accounts by signing in at my.roku.com  or on their Roku device and following the instructions to change or downgrade subscriptions billed through Roku Pay.

  • This is the fault of Disney+. We adjusted our own hulu+live bundle to with ads so we could get more live channels on hulu for around the same price. Well, now we cannot even use Disney+ and cannot roll-back to our old price without paying even more. This will hurt Disney in the long run as ppl will find alternative ways to watch their greedy mouse-made **bleep** if they don't resolve this issue soon & quit being so greedy. It will just like the 2000's all over again, before Netflix started. Just-sayin.

      It's not disney, I can watch disney plus on my fire stick but not my roku, Roku is being greedy wanting to take a big cut of our subscription to disney plus while Amazon fire stick us not. #RokuGreed

    Less Basic Disney subscriptions from ROKU users should make the Disney sponsors reconsider their ad campaigns.   Perhaps less income from ads will make Disney resolve this conflict.

        I'm not sure what the issue is that resulted in the decision to make Disney+ basic (w/ads) unavailable BUT that is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE.  I don't want to have to pay more $$$ to upgrade because I don't need the upgrade. I don't want to go through all of those crazy steps to connect it through my phone or some other device to watch it on my ROKU tv especially if I'm already paying for it. ROKU and Disney+ you need to put your dfferences aside and do what's best for the PAYING CUSTOMER.

    I have a Roku TV and did the Disney+ Basic add-on via Hulu. Last night was greeted with a big fat QR code. Had no idea about this and 'nice' of Hulu not to mention any of this on their sign-up page. Got Disney+ only to watch The Mandalorian. I have a Chromecast and it works fine. I'll most likely cancel Disney+ after series 3 is over.

      For more information about that channel's authentication and functionality, you'll want to contact Hulu+ support directly to inquire further. Many channels on Roku are developed and maintained by the channel provider themselves.

        Karla, how is it that's been months and this issue hasn't been resolved!?

        Why are Roku's customers being forced to pay double for a service, just because you don't solve a simple ads issue in which there shouldn't be any conflicts? Does this means that Roku doesn't care about it's customers?

        I'm replacing my current TV under an extended warranty, and I will select a model without Roku, just because of the Disney+ads issue.

        It's absurd; how many RokuTV owners are simply without choice, regarding Disney+ads!?

  • And now hulu is jumping on the let's make more money off this issue. Last week I noticed I was laying $10 more $79.99  for the hulu no ads with Disney and ESPN. But the only service that had no ads was Disney.  So told them to just go to the ads bundle. So now I am unable to watch Disney.  A week goes by and I call them back now the SAME plan went from $79.99 to $82.99 in a week. Yea Hulu for the concern.

  • As of today 3.11.23 I am still receiving this same error message. I signed up for Disney plus with ads through the Hulu add on. As advertised by HULU. When singing into the Disney app on my Roku TV, it says it's not supported. Which sucks because now I pay for it but can't use it yet and it appears to have been this way for months, but who knew that already? 

    not me lol I found out by finding this thread.

    I wrote about this the day after the Basic Disney with ads started and wrongly assumed it would be fixed within a day or two.   I tried to warn others on FaceBook about it but many were unaware till their current subscription ran out.  There was and is absolutely no warning when you add this Disney Plus Basic with ads subscription which to me was unscrupulous.  Ironically, we were getting Disney Plus without ads through Hulu for just $3 a month before December 8th. I had stupidly switched to Basic to save a stinking dollar on 12/8.

    I decided to unsub from Basic Disney even though we do have a Chromecast because there is no excuse  for not warning customers and no excuse for not righting this wrong.
